I might leave for rec.crafts.knitting ;-)

Hey guys,

I hope everyone had a good holiday! I took two weeks off and now it's back to work, oh well. I did get something called a Knifty Knitter loom over the holidays though, and I've been knitting up a storm! I'm left handed, and always had trouble learning to knit, even with leftie instructions. With this loom, you just wrap on the wool and it's so easy! I just thought I would pass it along for any other hopeless knitters out there :-)

Well, there is no "rec.crafts.knitting" in Usenet, but there *is* rec.crafts.textiles, which is mostly knitters, a few crocheters, and a few weavers. I read that group, too. Join us!

Hi, Christine. :) Knitting with Raffia sounds COOL... you could make your own shopping bags and purses and all sorts of decorations! I like how they have different sizes of looms, too. My mother tried to teach me knitting when I was young, but she was left-handed and trying to teach a right-hander was har going. These forms make it much easier!

You know, I have a small Vintage spindle in a box from when I cleaned out my parents estate.. you know, the kind where you make long tubes. I would love to get some knitting rafia and give it a whirl. Have fun making stuff! (although it already sounds like you are!) :))))))

Hi Linda!

Oh yeah :-D I think that will be my next step (once I'm finished with baby blanket #2). I just see so many possibilities and I'm eager to try new things.

Yes, one doesn't have to worry about tension at all! The different sizes do help a lot too.

Is your spindle the same as a corker? What would you use the tubes for?

Heh! I always have fun making stuff...it's what I think most of here like to do best!

Hi, Christine. :) I don't know if what I think of as a spindle is what you called a "corker". You hold it in your hand and the top is only about as large as a half-dollar piece. I was thinking of using Raffia to make tubes and then use the tubes to make bows for wreaths and stuff. And I have fun making stuff, too! From throwing pots to painting to silk-screens to jewelry, it's ALL good. :)

Linda, you really inspired me...I think corker is the same thing as a spindle...I think I will try to find one. I could make tubes to couch onto something :-) So many possibilities!
