In the UK

Love the newsgroup, been lurking for a while and really love the links to pictures you all post.....do any of you know of any beading groups or classes in the UK??

Su, Thanks for the links.... I am new to the UK and want to meet some like minded people, been making lampwork beads for less than a year, but I am hooked!!!

I wasn't aware you wanted lampwork too! We have a number of people on the BritLamp site who are very friendly too. I have a UK links page too on our site for more information.

Where are you located, and where are you from?

Yup, living on a boat is an adventure for sure. We haven't travelled much lately as it's getting past the pleasant stage for being out working locks and British Waterways thinks no one should use the canals in winter (hmph!) so we're pretty much stationary till March or so.

If you're not too far away, you're welcome to come by the studio and meet up with Mike as we have two torches set up all the time and are always happy for someone to come by for a bit of glassmaking.

I will have to check out the BritLamp site. Yes I am a certified addict to the torch :) I have a small studio area set up in my garage, not my dream studio, but it works for now.

We moved from Alaska this summer, living in Lakenheath Village in Suffolk.

What part of England are you from? Thank you so much for the invitation. I might take you up on that one day!

I have to start hitting some of the bead shows for sure!

Mike's from Manchester and I'm from Wisconsin by way of Indiana, Kentucky and then here.

Suffolk sadly is a bit far from here as we're in Todmorden, which is about halfway between Manchester and Leeds but for an American it's only a couple of hours' drive!

We'll be down your way (sorta, kinda... well in Essex!) in February for a bead fair. I have a calendar of shows on our site on the 'welcome' page so check it for updates as we'll be at most of the bead fairs here in the UK next year.

It must be a massive change from Alaska! It was definitely a change from Wisconsin/Indiana.

Coming from Eagle River. I took a couple of classes from Michelle Waldron before she moved out of state.

Hopefully I can come by a show and introduce myself in person!

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction as far as shows/classes and websites go.

It was a big change moving here, but I am starting to feel more settled as I figure out "whats what" Driving on the left side of the road was hard to wrap my mind around at first, but now its no problem. Lots of little things that are different. Really enjoying it here though....lots to see and do.

Juliane, you'll find out the major things quickly and the rest is just common sense.

I don't drive as Mike has this stupid big Daihatsu 4WD and I'm a VW Beetle kind of girl but other than that I've found that it's what you make of it.

Don't see too much at once, you end up forgetting most of it.
