Introduction, and request for help

Hi there

I've been lurking for a week or two, and thought I might make myself known :-). My name is Audrey, and I live in Brisbane Australia with my hubby and two gorgeous children. I've just started beading, and am going to make a few jewellery pieces as gifts for my family, just to see how I go. Can anybody direct me to any websites that can give me information such as what is a cabochon? and when is tigertail better to use than the stretchy stuff? There's loads of stuff on technique, but I haven't found anything yet that will give me the sort of detail I've described.

Thanks very much. This looks like a lovely friendly group, and I look forward to participating.

I've just answered my own question by following a newsgroup link to Air and Earth Designs, and then to Dr Sooz's list of beady links. Looks like there's plenty of reading material there...

Audrey welcome and boy are you in the right place. Dr. Sooz has a great page on Kandice's website all about beading. I think it's the beading bible online. :-)

Welcome.

Some answers, or at least opinions. A cab or cabochon is a flat backed stone or glass to glue bezel or bead into a setting.

Stretchy I never use because it is not durable. "Tigertail" is a cable of bundled wires with a plastic casing. However the stuff that's called tiger tail usually has fewer wires, is coarser, kinks etc. Try something similar, like acculon with at least 19 strands. I'm using up my old tiger tail for temporary stringing, stuff around the house, etc, but not for jewelry.

This is a fun group.
