unfortunately, the surgeon was called out of the office for emergency surgery on the day of her appointment, so he hasn't actually seen HER yet. but we were able to leave her films with him, and he is sending the films back with a letter detailing his opinions/suggestions/options with them for her and the Navy.
the first thing the surgeon said, when he looked at her films was: she has a herniated disk. depending on his interview with her later, she will need either fusion OR laminectomy and diskectomy. he is willing to do the surgery for her - she just has to convince the Navy that it would be better done by a civilian. that shouldn't be hard, at this point in time, since so many of their surgeons are overseas right now.
they have openings in their schedule for next month. according to his office manager, they don't want people in pain any longer than necessary. they will have her here for two or three days prior to surgery, 2 - 5 days in the hospital [depending on which surgery they decide on], and then whatever recovery time is needed here with me where i can take care of her until she is cleared to return to active duty.
i have to say, i was TOTALLY impressed by his staff, which is rare for me. and there were patients in his office from all over the country.
it has been SO good to have her home, and be able to help in a positive way.
and the CA State Fair, yesterday, was HOT, exhausting, and great as always!
