I just checked on snopes.com about the "poisoned treats" story, and it appears to be exceedlingly rare.

kathy -- I almost said when i posted that that i wasn't sure it had ever really happened in columbus. But it happened somewhere, and was reported on the news, and of course local folks went nuts. They have been x-raying candy ever since.
