Kath puts her money where her mouth is!

As promised, I spent an hour or two this evening making small samples using a variety of seed beads. All the samples were in Peyote, since that seems to be the stitch which requires the most uniform bead size. I used the same thread, needle and tension for all three samples. I used 6/0 beads for ease in photography and speed in making the samples. Since Delicas don't come in

6/0s, I used the 8/0 Delicas.

I made a fourth sample that is not photographed. I wasn't sure if the beads were Czech or not, although after looking at the samples, I'm 99% sure that the beads were Czech.

So, look at 'em and tell you what you think. I don't mind if any of you guys uses the photos on your web sites (or wherever), as long as you credit me.

Look in the Bead Comparison album.

A camera, a Canon S200 Elph. It's a really simple point and shoot job, but I love it, because I'm really not a photographer at all.

I didn't include the Czech because I wasn't sure it really was Czech. It was from a package of beads where I didn't quite know the origin, and I didn't want to mislead anyone.

I have a couple more stitches I want to try, but not tonight. I was especially surprised at how icky a sample of Ndebele came out with the 6/0 craft store beads. Of course, I did absolutely no culling. If I had been culling, it would have made a huge difference.

Perhaps I'll cull 100 grams of each type of beads, and compare the number of beads I have to throw away. As I was working, I realized that the Miyuki beads were probably much less expensive than the craft store type, because there would be less waste and because the holes are so much bigger.

P.S.: Just credit me as - K. Nicklas-Varraso, 2003

(thanks!)

Me, too. I will make a print-out to show my students. But I would like to know how to format your credit line, too. Just so it matches what you would like it to say.

Wow - what a difference. Since I only use the seeds for stringing I hadn't really paid much attention - but on weaving - geez.

Thanks for the pics!
