New Jewelry Photos

I've put up photos of four necklace/bracelet sets I made for a charity auction. If you'd like to look, they're at:

the "Summer Beadwork" album. I think I did some interesting things with pearls this time.

i was looking at your spiral. does anyone ever COUNT how many beads of each kind it takes to make one? i'm never sure [unless i've got a whole new hank of beads] that i'm going to have enough to finish one.

]BTW, those were pearls I already had in the house. I won't take any of the ]group buy pearls until I divide the lot among the participants.

sorry - that was a tease! i didn't expect you would have had time to get into them yet!

"The body of the bracelet and necklace are dyed green pearls, abalone rectangles and 4 mm stardust silver beads. The center of necklace is a Hill Tribe Silver pendant of what looks to be an orchid. The necklace is about 20" long, and the bracelet about 7-1/2"

where did you find abalone drilled the long way? all of mine has holes drilled through the center the other direction, which makes it harder to use - you have to use them like "chips".

I just did a quick count of the bracelet. It took 57 of the core beads (the

6/0 ones). That means it also took 57 pearls, 114 of the 11/0 gold beads, and 114 of the 8/0 Hex bead. There are a few beads stuck in the cones at the end, but they don't necessarily have to match the rest of the bracelet, they're there for me to add the findings. I'm a pants and suspender kind of woman, so they're attached with multiple passes of PowerPro as well as glued.

The necklace is three times longer than the bracelet, so it would take approximately three times as many beads. I used three strands of the little pearls, half a six inch tube of hex beads, a quarter of a three inch tube of the 11/0 gold beads, and a couple of handfuls of 6/0s to make both pieces.

If you're making this piece, I strongly suggest using Japanese beads for the core, because they have such large holes, compared to Czech beads. To ensure durability, I use doubled 4 lb. Power Pro for my spirals, so the core beads have eight strands of thread through them. I could have gotten away with

8/0s for the core, but the 6/0s gave me plenty of room.

The only thing we've done so far is count them twice (once by DD, once by me), and DD and I ran our fingers over all the different types of pearls, because they all feel so funky. We have one hank or so of some really funky baroque pearls, and they look like they've been rolled in sugar. The rest are all regular pearl shapes, rice, potato and near round. The lustre on them is gorgeous (except for a few wonky ones).

All in all, I think everyone will be quite pleased.

Kathy, VERY nice! You gave me an idea what to do with the hill tribe roses that I got from MJ!

Last year at the Whole Bead show. The strand was expensive for what I got, about $20. But I loved the look of them so much that I had to have them.

Nice, nice, nice...and nice. I like seeing what youre doing, its good inspiration. You put things together that never would occur to me. Well....it helps that a lot of elements you use are things Ive never seen before. lol Diana

Vicki and all, I can buy those abalone rectangles here locally for half that price (last time I checked), so I have never looked elsewhere. In fact, there is an unused strand somewhere in the middle of my oh so cluttered work space. LOL!
