New Here

Hi everyone, I have peeked at this group a few times, but never really "gotten into" knitting, crochet, tatting etc. I'm a regular on r.c.t.n., and LOVE petit point. But now that winter is here, I've decided the time has come to learn what I should have learned 40 years ago. So I joined the (literal) crowds at the yarn section of Michael's an came away with a ball of crochet thread, and a ball of merino wool. Next stop was the local thrift store where I bought a whole wack of knitting needles, crochet hooks, two tatting shuttles, and some 'how to' books. So although I will probably say very little, I'll enjoy reading everyone's posts while I learn because it looks like you ladies provide a fountain of information!

Hi Maureen,

Welcome to RCTY and to the world of knitting and crochetting. There are also many online sites that explain stitches and methods. Plus, with the people here, you will find a world of knowledge. You need only ask...and no question is ever dumb!

Maureen, welcome to the best group on the web. You'll find a very friendly bunch of people here. If you have any questions about your new hobbies, just ask, and someone will either know the answer or be able to direct you to the answer.

Maureen! Welcome to this NG, I think you have seen that we, besides to be yarn -"artists"(!!!) also are a friendly bunch, and sometimes very talkative! LOL! I love to see what the others have done, Therefore I was very happy to se YOUR pretty petit points! Many of us are thrilled to join the 6x6 exchange (samples of 6"x6", knitted or chrocheted, swapped once a month), Others swaps threads. But for me, the most important is to get new friends! If you start knitting or/and( ;-) chrocheting, you will soon be able to join 6x6! We will help you ;-) !

Welcome to the newsgroup, Maureen! Good for you, getting into the *in* crafts. LOL I'm sure you'll have a blast with it, and will be going along at full swing in no time. We have another lady here who only started knitting a month ago and she's already making a sweater for her grandson. ;o)

Have fun... and if you have any questions, most of these people on here know a TON of stuff that they can answer your questions. Me.... I'm here to supply the entertainment! LOL Seriously... most of what I do is find a TON of URLs for patterns for people... which I also hoard for myself. ;o)

Hi Maureen,

It's great to see that you found this group and welcome. I think you'll find that there are a couple more from your area that come here. Any questions, ask away.

Hi Maureen and welcome to RCTY! You and I "know" each other a little as I used to post to rctn under the name of "emerald". I haven't done any stitching for ages but I have been doing some knitting and crochet and I recently took a beginners course in weaving. More stash!!

Keep us posted on how your knitting turns out. Oh, and by the way, there's a big fibrefest in Abbotsford around April 1st 2006........

Thank you ladies AND gentlemen. lol My oversite (blush). Well, today I had a very meticulous scarf made. It was about 6 inches long, and, well, scarf width. :) But when I held it up to view my handiwork, I see a number of holes in my work where an elf must have come in and ruined my work! I know I wouldn't have dropped those stitches...LOL. Back to the drawing board for me!

I DO remember you Eimear! I still stitch my petit point pics, but am finding so many new things to do now that I'm afraid the pp is being passed up a little more often than I like. Oh well, like someone once said, 'tomorrow is another day'. lol And thanks for the notice about the fibrefest in Abbotsford! I'll be there with bells on. Maybe I'll see you there with some of your weaving? :)

Hmmm.... 6 inches long huh? For a very thin necked person? LOL Sorry, I couldn't pass that one up... just had to tease a little. ;o)
