new here, getting re-inspired

Greetings everyone,

I'm a semi-amateur bead artist...I say that because I lack lots of experience but I am fortunate to have a few faithful clients who like to buy my pieces. I have gone through lots of distracting life events lately like moving and illness, and now I'm realising that I've neglected my beads for too long because of it - yikes! Now I want to get back into the swing of things again, I thought it would help to be among peers (that is, if I can call myself a "peer", there seem to be many professionals here!)

I am American, but I live in France, so please excuse my strange English, it gets kind of distorted for lack of practise :) I know what you're going to ask...what kinds of cool beads do I find here? None! I'm in a region where people don't seem to do much with their spare time besides posing in cafés and smoking, so not a lot of hobby shops or specialised shops here. I get my stuff on visits to the States and I subscribe to B&B.

I have no website, and I have no solid direction in my beadmaking, so I really need to learn and get moving.

Other passions of mine include polymer clay, knitting and crochet, sewing, origami, and most of all, TEA. I'm drinking a nice hot Lapsang Souchong right now.

Look forward to meeting everyone, Shibumi

Welcome to this group. It's a lovely place to be. Here's a nice bead shop you might want to check out. I love France. Where are you?

Sounds fine to me. Where in France are you?

My partner is a Tea Snob, so we have an entire cupboard full of interesting teas, and we enjoy experimenting in the tea maker. Our standard "house brand" is 2 parts green, 1 part black, and 1 part flavored (usually a fruit or spice mix). A few days ago he made a batch with Typhoo, Chinese green, and cranberry spice which tasted like the distilled essence of Autumn!

Welcome Shibumi!

I'm not a professional- just love beads and beading. Although I am trying to get into selling some pieces. (I know I don't have the discipline for it to be full time for me).

And we need to see pictures!!

I'm in Marseille, way down south on the Mediterranean Sea. Sounds glamourous, but actually it's kind of an old, industrial sort of town...I call it the "New Jersey of France" ;)

I like that tea combination...I've heard a few times about making blends with both black and green, haven't had the courage to try it out. I'm basically a green-tea person but lately I have been sampling some black teas out of curiosity (curiositea?).

I actually do know where Marseille is. There's this board game I play called "Eurorails", where you have to draw track and deliver goods across a map of Europe. It's done a lot for my sense of European geography!

Have you tried bubble-tea, or has that trend not made it to your area yet?

Excuse me, but I have lived in both France and New Jersey, and to say that Marseille is like the NJ of France is really doing a disservice to New Jersey. (Nope, I'm not a Jersey girl by birth, but before I moved there, I thought it was all like Bayonne and Camden. It's not called the garden state for nothing!!)

Of course there are beautiful parts to New Jersey. I grew up not far from there. I meant the term more loosely than that. And just a tiny speck of humour tossed in there. There are beautiful parts to Marseille, too, but I meant no sweeping general term for either place when I said that. So you are excused...am I excused, too? :)
