I saw a discussion on it a few days ago and I've been researching and getting the bits and pieces that I need. I was wondering though, has anyone here actually made one? I'd really like to ask a few specific questions when I come up with them!

I finally have almost everything I need: Slides, solder, flux, flux brush, alcohol for cleaning the slides, 1/4" copper foil (I got the kind that looks silver on the back), something to burnish the foil with, bits of cool stuff for my collage, soldering iron, loop to attach to the top, glue...
What I'm missing at this point is something to hold the slide for soldering. I no longer have my "third hand" tool. Maybe a small vise or something would work.
Everything is laid out on my kitchen table. I'm ready. Almost :-)
What questions did you have? I bet the group here could answer them.
Oh, and I got some silica gel today and have a bunch of tiny flowers from my garden drying as we speak. Yay!
Well, I found a shop that sells the microscope slides (50 for £2.30 - yay) and I'm going to the shop where my BF works this week (a hardware shop) to buy a soldering iron, which I was promised for my birthday months ago anyway, solder, clamp, stanley knife, glass cutting tools and maybe a few others bits (I get a big discount!) and I bought some little rose quartz hearts and some findings last night. The only thing I can't find is the copper tape in a 1/4" width, but we're going to go shopping for it tomorrow. I've got a few picutres together so far, but my grandad was an avid photographer so I'm going to go searching through the boxes of stuff that were left to me in his will that I haven't gone through yet! Hopefully that will go well, I'm also going to the charity shops to look for interesting broaches and things. My BF's hoping to get an exhibition of his photography work soon so we've decided that I shall make some of these pendants if they go well to exhibit at the same time using some of his pictures. I'm also playing with image transfers on fabric to make small bags to compliment them. All in all, it's been a fun few days!

Charlie, did you try stained glass shops for the tape?
I did my first one today, by the way. I'm awestruck...
I have never seen a stained glass shop in my life! I guess it's not a popular thing round here. It's also used by electricians, so I'm going to ask my uncle is he has any ideas - he's an electrician.

I understand the copper tape bit, ptting it round the edge, but where exactly do you solder? I understand how it works for stained glass, but this I'm confused about!

No pictures until I have a few done. I'm doing one for Prairieson with old images of the museum where he works and quotes by the founder and such... Doing one for Prairieson's mom to take with her when she leaves for Florida (with a lock of Prairieson's baby hair and all manner of images and copies of childhood handwriting).
I'm totally smitten!
Oh, and Charlie? You totally solder over the copper foil. All that silver that you see around the glass in the online images is solder of one sort or another. Also, I decided to get silver backed copper foil because I thought it would look nicer and more consistent than having the back side copper.
Another thing: The lead free solder that plumbers use is too big a gauge for this project. You need about 2mm lead free solder. Here is a link to a stained glass supplier in the UK:

Ah, I suspected it may have been like that. Thanks! As for geting the tape, I found one place that charge £3.50 a roll, with £15 P&P on top!
Theres a stained glass place about 30 mins drive away, so I'll try and get there sometime.
