The dudes said that their job is to find businesses that are well thought-out, and that need a bit of guidance and some capital. The criteria is really stringent, and I am more surprised than anyone that I've gotten this far with it.

There are still some hurdles left, but I figure what happens, happens. In the meantime, they have given me a huge to-do list that I need to work on. They think I should advertise in Bead and Button, but I want to establish a presence in some other magazines that would be appropriate, yet that haven't had a ton of lampwork ads yet. Do you guys have any ideas? Belle Armoire?

Today was nearly a total waste. As I was gleefully hooking up my new monitor, all of a sudden I had a dual disaster: Bad boot sector on my hard drive PLUS my power supply went bad. I'm writing this from my laptop, so that's good, but all my customer records, postage software and such are on that nasty hard drive. So instead of going to the Ohio State Fair in Columbus tomorrow, I'll be fixing my computer. Grrrr.

Let's just say it was a private referral. My potential benefactor is apparently a fan of my work and wants to see me move forward. This is the stuff movies are made of...

How about Wire Artist Jeweler? I'm pretty sure their rates are much lower than B & B - if you need specifics on their rates I have them - at least as of 6 months ago.

So you were going to do the Ohio State Fair--as a vendor? I don't remember much of anything artistic going on there but its been decades; I worked it there for several years as a Talker on the Midway games...made good money, for the '70's!! And I can guess yer weight, or..... Sarajane

I thinkthat B&B is a perfect magazine in which to advertise, I also like Belle ARmoire a LOT. Along with advertising dollars, also see consider putting out a LOT of pics sent to magazines along with a paragraph for the "Salon" and other sections where people whow their work, also send in some articles if you have any ability to do the how-to thing OR a good show and tell. You don't have to teach then. If you don't already have fabulous slides, then get some made and always get dupes of the best made for sending--one for the permanent file and a couple for sending out. What magazines are there for glass bead people? There's also Jewelry Craft, Ornament, and several Bead mags...Do you ever use rubber stamps inthe making of beads, if so, there's Stampinton and some others...how about gem and mineral stuff added, then Lapidary Journal is a possible... :) First off, I read a LOT - sometimes many things at once.

Here's what I am reading right now:

Bell, Book & Murder - the Bast mysteries by Rosemary Edghill (freaking fantastic) The Rebirth of Witchcraft by Doreen Valiente (wonderful) Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler (long, informative, but really good) The Subtle Knife (#2 of the His Dark Materials series - recommended by someone here, and fantastic)

I of course just finished the fifth Harry Potter a couple of weeks ago, along with a companion book that looked at the mysteries in HP 1-4. Freaking fantastic - I can't wait for more.

I also just got "The Practical Pagan", "21st Century Witchcraft", "Spiral Dance" and "A Witch Like Me".

Among my favorites are anything written by Silver Ravenwolf (I get made fun of for liking her, but I DO, so oh, well), any of the datebooks and almanacs published by Llewellyn, Wiccan Mysteries by Grimassi, anything written by teen author L.J. Smith, and the Circle of 3 series by Isobel Bird. I swear, some of the best books are written for teens. In the fantasy world, I love Robert Jordan, Anne McCaffrey, Marion Zimmer Bradley and a host of others.

Grrr! indeed... I hope you had backups of your important data...

I have been conditioned by my library job. All equipment is mortal. And all data needs to to stored -away- from the equipment in some form.

We literally had *20* generations of backups of our vital stuff. And a twice-a-week offsite run, so if the entire building blew up, the data would still be in restoreable form *somewhere else*.

The existence of backups saved our staff's a$$es more times than I can count, just because people sometimes delete things they don't mean to delete, more often than because of an equipment failure.

Good luck with recovering your stuff. At least you have learned (unfortunately, the hard way): A back up that lives on the same physical disk is not -really- a backup. It may be a convenient second copy, but not a backup.

Thanks for the welcome. Right now all I'm doing is buying Tink's beads (still waiting for one to come!!! ) and Michael Barley's beads and making them into pendants. Reading books and seeing what I want to do. It's almost addicting just reading everything - let alone TRYING anything!!!
