OT: Angelic Beurdies

DH got some more flight pictures. Several look really angelic...

Check out Lila in the bottom-most picture. If you look at it in full size you can see the glow around her as well as the fact that she is kind of see-through. The picture of Sugar in the upper-left corner of the third group has particularly angelic looking wings I think (make sure to expand it).

BTW in the comment at the bottom I noticed that DH reffered to me as "DW". It had never dawned on me that I would be a "DW". I asked him if he has tailored the sight to you guys and he just laughed.

I absolutely love all the posts on Lila and Sugar. There is an English budgie at our local pet store that really needs a home. If Trink, Smudges, and I weren't suffering from allergies now I would bring him home.

Who is Smudges?

I feel bad for English budgies. They only live half as long and look big and clunky compaired to "real" parakeets to me. I don't understand why ppl are so into them. But every birdie (and puppy etc) needs a good home!!!

btw...there is the slightest chance...we might be providing a new home for a Senegal or Conure soon. One problem is that we do NOT want one family member who has a tendency to bite off other family members' toes, as the Senegal apparently has been known to do with his current budgie "friends". And Conures in general have been known to hurt budgies if the budgies get too annoying apparently :( . We don't want to clip anybody's wings unless they are already clipped either as we don't think it is fair to take that joy and exercize away from them, since their natural state obviously involves flying. soooo...we'll see. The source of potential birds sounds kind of goofy so she might change her mind.

Smudges is our black lab and Tolak is our beautiful German Shorthair Pointer.

I love English budges because they are bigger and more gentle. This one really calls out to me because he comes to front of the cage every time Trinkett and I go into the store.

I love Senegals but they like a quiet environment. They are pretty quiet birds but they are very cool. Conures are just too dang loud for me.

Lovely photos of Sugar and Lila, Marisa. :) It's so nice to see a bird owner let their birds fly, instead of clipping their wings. I especially like "SugarFlight4" - that would make an *awesome* amulet bag! And tell your "DH" he takes pretty good pictures. :)

Thanks!

You are welcome to take these pictures for inspiration or to make into an amulet bag if you want (DH concures, saying "the more famous our birds are the better, right?)

Hmmm and as it happens he is apparently lurking on RCB waiting for comments on his birdie pix.

Soon he will put up some pictures of bird jewelry, about half of which he made, so be sure to compliment him there too ;);)

I keep forgetting your other dogs. Trink tends to dominate your stories :)

We'll see about the Senegal. I like the sound of him but I go with my mom's philosophy... the needs of current family members must always rank higher then the needs of hypothetical or potential family members (the Senegal was offered to her too but she felt that Virgil (sheltie) would be too jealous and it would make his senior years a misery. Similarly, she isn't taking on a new foster dog now.)

The story of the Senegal and Conure (and several other birds including 2 quakers, a bird who's breed sounds like aventurine, but I'm sure that's not right, and two semi-tame budgies) is kind of wierd. This lady used to have over a hundred birds, gave them all away, aquired these ones, now apparently she and/or her husband want another baby (dont really understand this story) but she has had high-risk pregnancies before so her husband wants her to get rid of her birds. So she is. Including the Senegal who is exclusively bonded on her (I am guessing several of the other birds are too). I haven't talked to this person directly, just my friend in the group, but supposedly she (the birds' owner) is going to call us this weekend some time (hasn't so far). Apparently in the past she claimed she was giving away birds, then when the ppl came to get them she changed her mind and wanted to charge $300 for one of the birds. Since there are way too many birds to go around at the adoption table at the group the person of course said "no". (She won't put them at the adoption table since two of her birds went to one of the known bird horders. She went to get them back from that person and they were injured).

Well, like I said, several parts of that story REALLY bother me. (Like, why get birds if you aren't going to feel responsbile for them? Why have another pregnancy if you've already had one more more high-risk pregnancies? Why should I drive 5 hours to get to her house if she is going to change her mind about giving away her birds? etc), but if there is a chance we can provide a bird a much needed home...

Either way, we now have permission from our landlord to get one more "small caged bird" who is "slightly bigger then Lila and Sugar". So if this falls through, my friend assures me, once people know we are interested in birds there will be plenty more birds needing homes showing up on our metaphorical doorstep.

You and DH are quite welcome. :))))) And thank you for the offer of the picture... I've already glommed it from your website and I'll see what I can do in Photoshop before I attempt to make it into a pattern.

Be sure to let us know when your DH puts up his bird jewelry so we can all make the appropriate 'oooh's and aaahhh's. :D

Marisa, would you consider changing the font color on your jewelry pages? I can't read the blue print. waaaaa

OMTP! My faves are the bathing pictures because I didn't know birds really bathed like that, they are so cute. I looked closer and I can see the "pink stick" LOL. I also really like "SugarFlight4" I haved saved a copy for myself!

I wish your DH would come and take piccies of our little crazy birds! My camera has too long of a delay to get good in-flight pics. What camera does your DH use? I really wanted a pic of Stretch last night when she landed UPSIDE-DOWN on a ceiling vent, but I knew there was no point in going and getting the camera because she'd be off to another spot by the time I got back with it.

The camera is a Polaroid 2300z, which is to say it's old and largely unsupported. It also has no control for the shutterspeed.

The way I got the pictures was to stick it onto flash mode (which somehow doesn't bother the beurds) and first force it to do its auto-focus (push the button down half way) and then actually take the picture when the birds do something interesting. It seems that, at least on this camera, keeping it on flash mode reduces the shutterspeed to something close to the time of the flash. Thus I can get a picture that isn't necessarily that of a green blur.

She'll do it again... the trick is not having to go and get the camera! :)

Hi Max! It's nice to meet the man behind the photos! :)

Next time we let them out I'm going to get the camera out and ready at the same time. Maybe two cameras... just in case! ;)

The flash burst is what registers the image. The flash can burst faster than a "shutter". Can you make your camera switch to a flash always on mode? Sometimes it's called fill flash mode. The shutter on some cameras slows down for flash mode to make sure that the flash goes off when the shutter when the shutter is all the way open. Maybe that will help? I am enjoying your pictures very much, Lila and sugar are so cute!!!

:) Thanks!

Oh, don't do that! Your left hand won't know what the right camera is taking pictures of.

LOL! But you know, because the battery always goes dead just at the wrong time, or the card malfunctions, or you run out of film, or the shutter gets stuck...
