Last fall, a representative from the local Cancer Society came to our guild meeting and announced a call for art works. They were planning a show in their board room at their new location for April 2010 to coincide with their spring program. I decided to enter, and worked furiously on my project before leaving for Florida. In March I reminded my DS2 to get it delivered in time for the show. I attended the Daffodil Tea on Saturday, and was pleased to find out that I had won first prize! I received a wonderful basket of goodies from Cooks Fine Foods in Kingston that included many imported delights, including several types of chocolate! My wall hanging was made in 3 panels, with raw edge applique and machine quilting and thread painting. I did the stitching on just two layers, then added the backing, finishing with a pillow turn. I inserted a piece of Timtex (stiff interfacing) into each panel, then whip stitched them together.

I also finished the quilting on this double Irish chain quilt. It is made with my 2 inch square "leaders and enders", which form the 25-patch blocks. The alternate block is a great place to quilt, and I used a pattern that I had downloaded in 2003 as a bonus from Quilters Newsletter. The border was inspired by one from Judy Laquidara's pattern, called Framed Pinwheels found here:
