Spell check is the main reason I -look- accurate most of the time, not native capacity as a speller. And sometimes things slip through because I hit 'ignore' without paying enough attention, or because it is a legit word that spell check finds in its dictionary, so it doesn't flag it ... but it is the wrong word for the context.
But because I write aurally rather than visually, there is no red flag in my head that says "that LOOKS wrong* the minute a misspelling appears on the page, the way a better speller might.
