OT: Can't Wait

I might not have a Thanksgiving with Ken...We *were* planning on Ken working that night (12 hour shifts), and my going in with him (and the other families, kinda on the hush/hush), and having T-day with him there (well, at night, but the same thing...but they might be starting up the plant on that day, after shut down...ah, well.

But the thing I get to look forward to, is putting up the Yule Tree!!! I have *no* christmas decorations from past years (well, we bought some lights at the after-christmas sale last year, and I have some weird stuff, like a Barbie doll house Hallmark ornament, and a carousel that plays Christmas songs). So last Thursday, we went and bought a tree (fake, of course, since this will really be the first one *I* have had in like 10 years...and I don't know how to take care of a live one, and with having cats...

We got some blue and white balls for a "base", and tinsel. We did pick out some 99cent ornaments. Plus, since we have a bannister on our stairs, I bought some "pine" garland to wind up around it, and got some small ornaments in a peppermint candy type colors to put up it (should make

*GREAT* toys for the cats, LOL!).

So, all of this will go up this weekend! So I get to have my fun then!!! :-) Hopefully will find the cord to my camera by then, and can upload and share the fun!!!

(hmmm...wonder if the people in the bulk buy wouldn't mind waiting til after Christmas for their bali silver, so that I can string strands of it for the tree??? Nah...I think they might get a *little* peeved...)

Since you have cats, you may want to skip the tinsel. If they eat it (and they do) it can do nasty things to their insides.

whoops, I meant that silvery thing that wraps around, not the single strand stuff. And we have already planned to keep most of the stuff higher on the tree. Plastic ornaments on the bottom.

But thanks for the reminder...I was thinking about getting it, then remembered that.

Damn! That just reminded me that now that I've rearranged the living room, I can no longer tie the top the of tree to a hook stuck into one of the ceiling beams. It can't sit where it used to. Now what will I do to keep it upright when the cats start climbing in it? Barbara Dream Master

We use fishing line to tie it to the corners of the room. Bob put a nail in each corner, which remains there from year to year. At Christmas tree time, we run some monofilament from each nail to the tree. We started this years ago, when we had cats, and continued when DD was small. Now it's just habit, and even when I've tripped and hit the tree, it's remained upright.
