OT - flooding in WA and other updates

Hey everyone -

I just wanted to let you all know that I will be pretty sporadic in my posting for a little while. There's a lot going on here - not the least of which is a sudden influx of orders coming in for lampwork. This is wonderful - keep them coming - but does make it hard to have time to do a lot of posting and reading. :) So please don't feel bad if I don't get the chance to respond to posts right away. Another major thing lately is that the whole western portion of Washington is flooding right now. And we're talking major flooding. Today (Mon, Oct.

20th) was the wettest day on record since they have been measuring rainfall in the Seattle area. Seattle had about 5 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. North Bend, where I am, had more. All the rivers and streams are flooding, and some towns are completely under water. Luckily, we are on a hill, so there won't be any flooding at our house, but landslides are a scary possibility. And the rain will keep falling all week long. I said I liked rain, but this is ridiculous! :) Anyway, here's a link to a news story with pics for those interested.

Ooo Kandice! I'm so glad for you! So this is a good thing that you are vanishing for! ;-)

I wish you well during all this flooding. Landslides sound extremely dangerous, so you watch out if you have to leave the house!

It's not so bad here in Tacoma, but I'm up on a hill. It did take me 45 minutes to take oa 20 minute drive to chorus rehearsal last night, though. We are getting a break from the rain today, so hopefully when it rains again tonight, it won't be so bad. Now to clean up the branches that got blown into our yard yesterday.

we are up on a hill too so pretty safe too, unless mudslides start to be in fashion - my driveway is a little bit washed out already. The sun is actually popping out for a little break (yay!) right now in Carnation, which gives me a chance to see that the valley is all flooded, but the road looks ok - I see little tiny cars zooming by on it - always a good sign. I can't believe how much rain we got - I woke several times last night and was just shocked each time to hear that the rain had not let up yet - it was just pounding down for maybe 36+ hours straight...

Stay dry :)

Oh Pam! I'm so sorry to hear that... I used to have to deal with water on a nearly regular basis when I lived in Michigan. It's so discouraging and a buttload of work. Sending you good thoughts...

I'm up on a high hill in WA, no chance of flooding here. In fact I think it's funny that we have flood insurance.

ha, yeah, I always thought flood insurance was funny since we are on the top of a big hill too - in fact I think our house it the highest one on this hill... oh well. hubby is on phone with insurance co. now to see what flood insurance actually means. I'm sure it's not much.

thank you everyone for the good vibes, I can feel them - it's not nearly as bad as it could be.

we got most of the water up and the carpet shampooed, and fans running and trying to dry things up, but some of the sheetrock in the wine cellar/closet is ruined and we are afraid there is water under the stairs and behind the walls and need to have that checked out as the last thing we need is mold growing in our walls... and then we need to figure out how to keep this from happening again - it's the first time in 7 years we've gotten flooded - so either it's due to the excessive amount of rain or there is some damage in our foundation that needs repairs. Nothing really important was ruined (personal items) so that is good too.

and my poor baby has the flu to top it all off. It's his birthday today even. Good thing I had his party this weekend - we have pictures if anyone wants to see my cute 3 year old on a pony:

I lost my cabin on the Tahuya river one year..

But this house is on the top of the hill and the closest body of water is a tiny little creek 3 miles away..

well it turns out we no longer have flood insurance - allstate dropped that years ago. our water damage will only be covered if it turns out it's coming from the pipes somehow and not the weather.

Oh well... more $$ down the drain :-(

Pam

On a brighter note, my son seems to be recovering from the flu quickly... yay :)
