OT: It's cold here!

Check on Ebay. Sometimes the cards are available for short money. I bought mine for well under $50, and they have all the colors I think I'd ever need. I bought the size 11 seed bead cards, not the Delicas. Delicas are not my friends, and I try not to use them. Size eights come in a smaller variety of colors than the 11's, and I've noticed that the color numbers are the same. So the 11/0 card does everything I need it to.

You all are making me so jealous! It's been so hot here in FL...today was the FIRST day that we've actually had decent weather. But that was only in the shade...Gawd, do I want cold weather. I thrive in it! And stupid me lives in hot hot hot Florida. :-(

You know, it's funny. Mine seems to be loving the cooler drier weather. After my trip to Atlanta (beautiful weather!) I've been feeling almost decent lately. And I have definately noticed a change in the humidity around here.

Thanks, Ellen -- I had looked at them some time ago and misread the price as $25 per card rather than $25 per set of three. I may go ahead and treat myself to them.

I bought the 11/o cards a few weeks ago. I've purchased a lot of beads from

in the past - along with metal cuffs that I use for loomed bracelets. Teresa is a pleasure to deal with. There are three 11/0 cards - two are about 8x10 and one is smaller; I didn't count all the colors but there are approx. 300 (her description says 400 but there are blank lines on the cards so I don't think there are that many). I do not believe that these are all the Miyuki 11/o colors, but the cards are definitely giving me design ideas.

I also bought Miyuki triangle and fringe bead sample cards from Fire Mountain Gems - they were under $4 each (not including shipping).

I still love it. I went to Mexico not too long ago and it was hotter than hell. I made sure I had plenty of coke to drink (not water). I loved it. DH almost died. It was his first time there.

Be glad you aren't at my house. My furnace isn't working- it's about 60 in the house. Great for sleeping - but not so great during the day!

We get a visit from Jack Frost too (mainly because I'm always making soup to add humidity to the house) though it's not ever been cold enough for a long enough time to freeze the window open. And it's my bedroom window and the only window opened during the winter. I needs my fresh air so it's cracked opened at night and closed during the day.

You and I living in different regions have different types of cold, yes?

Different types of cold? you mean like very cold and extremely cold?

Where is it you live? Here our cold is extremely dry.

Cold and bitterly cold as in Chicago bitter, windy cold.

Chicago area and our winters tend not to be dry but the gas forced heat in most homes specifically ours is definitely a dry heat.

Right here in Fairbanks, it's usually pretty windless, especially when the thermometer bottoms out. I've only had the one that goes to minus 60F to bottom out once. But the minus 40F/C does regularly.

Even outside the the relative humidity is low here in winter. And then the air expands, as the air rises that 100 degrees, and can carry more moisture, so then the same amount of air has only a small fraction of the humidity (capacity). (Cold/compressed air molecules have less space where they can carry moisture).

We've got you beat on cold and dry, but I'm awfully glad it's not so windy!!

I love the wind but in the winter it's positively wicked! ugh

I've been in Toronto in winter. It felt like a layer of ice was being sprayed onto my legs. Of course, now I wouldn't wear a dress in that weather.

Back in the day when I had to wear a dress to school, my legs would be bright red until at least noon. What were those schools thinking about anyway? LOL

There was one very wintery day in Great Lakes, IL (-55F, with the wind chill) that I had to wear a knee-length skirt, with nylons, and white nylon gloves. Why? 'Cuz it was "uniform of the day" that women were to wear "dress blues, alpha" on Fridays on the Navy Base.... Multiple complaints from the sick call "docs" and the hospital command got the order recinded for the rest of the winter, but not until after that desperately cold day....
