If you soak your hands in warm water when they are dry then coat them with a very fine coat of vasaline they will heal nicely. I apply it then use the towel to wipe most of it off. One thing I heard it to apply it before bedtime then don cotton gloves. I think doing this right before you try beading would be a bad thing. :-) Diana

When I was a kid I had a horrible time with my hands peeling for no reason. It has still lasted into adulthood, but it isn't nearly as bad. I did the Vaseline and cotton gloves thing FOREVER and it never helped me. It made the tops of my hands very smooth though. ;-) But the bad spots...on my fingers, peeled no matter what. It only happens once a year, so I can live with it, but that cotton gloves and Vaseline thing never worked for me.

Not to mention making the goats feel better! Now those were some days, weren't they? I made everything from Mayo to cheese to taco chips. All our bread, grew, harvested and canned all the fruits, veggies, made juices... had chickens, ducks, geese, goats, sheep, rabbits, 3 boys - hey - no wonder I like this city living so much now! Grocery stores, what a treat!

getting old is terrible.

Some people have "ulcers on their hands" as a stress reaction. Could this be the case?

I have no idea. My fingers, and sometimes my palms peel...like I'm shedding skin like a reptile! LOL! It used to be very painful...the skin would peel until it exposed tender raw skin. They layers of skin that aren't supposed to be exposed basically. As I get older though, it isn't as bad and last a shorter amount of time. I have no idea why it does that, and I've never seen a doctor about it.

Try the lanolin at night. I forgot to add that sometimes when I'm warming it in my palm, I add a little of my regular lotion to help make it easier to apply. Never did the gloves, couldn't sleep with them on.

Seriously though, why is it so hard for us to remember to take care of ourselves? I work at a fitness club, for crying out loud, and most of the time I forget to work out.

Yesterday I was telling the fitness tech that I need to remember that my work out is AS important as anything I do in bookkeeping because the better I take care of ME the better job I will do for Curves.

Maybe I SHOULD make me a sign and hang it over my computer:

HAVE YOU DONE YOUR WORK OUT TODAY?

Now if I can just REMEMBER to do it... wait I'm gonna email this to me at work! Brilliant suggestion Karleen.... LOL

Well I didn't have quite the zoo, but did bunches of gardening and canning... Funny how creaky joints changes your perspective on life. I used to wonder WHY on earth anyone would want to live in an apartment or condo... I wanted scads of land and trees and NO neighbors... Now with a perpetually overgrowing lawn, not a square foot fit to garden in (I tried), and no reliable help with it ... a condo is looking pretty good! :)

Lotion is made with alcohol, which dries your skin. Moisturell hand CREME is excellent. If that isn't good enough, go to an ointment.

If it is a stress reaction, it could involve other medical issues. It needs a doctor's attention.
