OT: Post Office

Ken just sent this to me:

When It Absolutely, Positively Has to Get There Eventually

According to the Wall Street Journal, studies find that the United States Postal Service's Priority Mail, priced at $3.85 for a letter, is slower than standard first-class mail, priced at 37 cents. Only 65 percent of Priority Mail is delivered within three business days, versus 81 percent for standard first class.

Well crap. That's how I just mailed my application packet to Penland on Monday. Damn. It has to be there Friday by 5 PM. Egads....

< I never use Priority for that reason. I have had 1st class mail reach Alaska in 3 days. Faster to some other states and when I used Priority it took between 5 and 7 days! 1st Class for me is just fine. :)

First class over here in the UK is great, it's next day 95% of the time or more! And it only costs 28p! So much cheaper than paying for a "next day" service.

Alaska in 3 days.

I believe it! We've had terrible experiences with Priority! I don't use it unless a customer wants it and pays the extra.

Oh how I wish I could! I only had one set of slided made because I wasn't that thrilled with the stuff anyway. No time to make more slides. I am really starting to freak out about this.

Must.... remember..... meds.....

< Tink.... just relax.. It's been my experience through the years that if it's meant to happen it will. I am sure your item will get where it's suppose to be exactly when it's suppose to. Enjoy the moment and the day and let a higher power control the rest. :) A prayer has been sent just in case though! lol Have a wonder day and do something good for you TODAY!

Very true. Although for not much you can send stuff to the US and it'll be there in two days.

My rule of thumb is this:

If it's too big to go First Class, send it Priority. If it's not, First Class does just fine. Although if I want delivery confirmation I use Priority *always*, especially since you can't do the DC# on First Class (why is that? It would be so much easier!)

You CAN do DC on first class. My son does it everyday with his cables. OK... He wants me to put in his link here:

He sells USB cables. :) Anyway... he does DC all the time. Harry

Agreed - me either. Even the postal workers at my local P.O. tell me that with the light weight of my mail, I should definitely go first class. Priority doesn't get there any faster, and costs almost three times what I normally pay for first class with delivery confirmation. Not worth the free boxes, IMO.

You can. DC on First Class PACKAGES is 55 cents at the post office or 13 cents if you use eDC (d/l the USPS Shipping Assistant software). A first class package is defined as being packed in a box OR an envelope that is AT LEAST 3/4 of an inch thick. Bubble wrap works wonders for fattening up an item before packing it in your envelope and doesn't add much weight.

Oh I so need to talk to my PO!! Because I am PO'ed! I tried it once and my post office told me they wouldn't do it. Since then I've changed post offices, so maybe I should ask again at the new one.
