OT: Superman is Flying again...

How very sad, and yet, what a triumphant man...

Nikki Finke in Los Angeles is reporting that actor Christopher Reeve is dead, according to sources close to the actor. He died suddenly Sunday. News of his death has not been reported publicly yet. His family will make an announcement Monday at the earliest. Reeve was just mentioned Friday in the second live presidential debate by John Kerry. Noting he was a friend of the paralysed Reeve, Kerry said he was in favor of further stem cell research because Reeve could walk again one day thanks to such science....

Talk about stunned at that news. Wow and sad.

That's so, so sad. I was really hopeful that all the research being done by his organization would help him live a lot longer. My heart goes out to his family and those that love him. :(

If it's true (I can't find ANY mention via Google or regular news sources), I can't help thinking it's in incredibly poor taste for Drudge to announce it before the family has a chance to say anything official. Doesn't surprise me, but it's still tacky.

I'm speechless. I mean, wow...that one hit home. He was an icon of my childhood.

If that is true then it's the 3rd in this series

It's been reported on the news here in Oz, I don't know if it's official or not from the family. Apparently it was heart failure of some sort.

Me too. As a single person, he did more for stem cell research than the whole research community combined. He was larger-than-life to the end. Rest in peace.

My sister was just attended a function 'with' him in Chicago last week. What an inspiration.

Complications from pressure sores. A constant danger for quads. Mr. Reeve presented Kevin with an award in 1999 for overcoming obstacles. We're stunned that he's dead.

What a very special memory to have. I'm sure this is hitting you and Kevin much more significantly than most. Hugs,

I read that this morning. How awful - especially since he had his own nursing staff and aides to prevent this very thing. So, so sad.

Terrifying. If it can happen to him, as careful as he was, and with that staff......Pressure sores move FAST, and they are frequently fatal to people with paralysis. So, so scary. ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

My thoughts exactly, Sooz (I didn't want to say it out loud, though - hugs!!). He was such a vital human being - I hope that his causes don't lose any momentum (actually, I'm sure his wife will carry on admirably).

Thanks, Fiddy dear. Kevin broke his wrist last night -- bashed it between the wall and his wheelchair. I walked down the hall to get my shoes so we could go to the ER, and found out Christopher Reeve had died. Sheesh! Talk about a one-two punch in a short space of time. It makes one feel so damn vulnerable.

People who have paralysis have such *incredibly* more complicated lives, in so many ways we don't even consider. Please, please -- if there is a stem cell issue on your ballot this November, vote in favor of stem cell research! PLEASE. It might make my husband live longer, maybe even use his hands someday.....perhaps, maybe, even walk. I could hold his hand and get it held back. I could receive a hug from him. He could touch my cheek -- and feel it for the first time. He could perhaps not die from a pressure sore. ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

And please keep in mind that George W. Bush is OPPOSED to stem cell research, while John Kerry supports it!!!
