OT - Tonsillectomy fun!

I haven't been posting much lately, but that may soon change radically as I am scheduled to have my tonsils out (and possibly my sinuses reamed, pending analysis of the CT scan I had today) and that will do two things; A: I will immediately have a lot of time on my hands, as I will be too doped up to do anything besides lie in bed and drool on the computer, and B: after I recover, I should have OODLES MORE ENERGY as the chronic infection which has apparently been sapping my immune system for YEARS will be gone. Who knew?

Also probably my ear will stop hurting.

I am going to stock up in advance... and I will be eating SHITLOADS of banana Popsicles!

All you guys have to do is BE THERE! I will have nothing to do but read and write, and I may not be entirely coherent because they give you strong narcotics for the recovery period. Please post lots!

Hahaha oh yes, dear Sooz, PHEAR ME!

(More energy than the sleeping-for-12-hours heap of limp girlflesh I was last time I visited? I hope so!!!)

The tonsillectomy/reaming is currently scheduled for the 29th, but if they can they're going to move it up to this Friday!

Kalera -- wish you luck. Guarantee you won't even want to be sitting at the computer. My son had his out two years ago - and it was all he could do to get enough pain medication to go to sleep, wake up drink water, take more medication and go back to sleep for the first few days -- then it gets better - then it gets worse again.... Plan on taking what they give you - they actually gave Chris oxycontin (I nearly fainted when I read it)... but he said it didn't work! He said all it did was knock you out - not kill the pain. As I recall he said that the

800 mg prescription Motrin worked better. Make sure you have plenty of fluids on hand. When it is all over and done with - you should feel better. It did sap Chris's energy for years - he had chronic subclinical tonsil infections all the time.... He said it was NOT a fun choice - but the payoff was worth it.

hugs kiddo - Cheryl

if they do your sinuses/adenoids also, you may have to spend a little time re-learning how to pitch your voice. Singing gets it back faster, after the healing happens. But often there's a "echoy" thing that happens when there's no longer masses of inflamed tissue in there.

Weird as it sounds, in addition to popsicles when healing, kids are often given salty potato chips. As I recall, it actually felt very good. These days, I'd give a go to the Malt Vinegar and SeaSalt Boulder Chips, or something like that. And Emergen-C puts a full gram ofVitamin C starting right there on the throat and mouth tissues---great stuff, made by Alacer, sold in healthfood and even grocery stores now. Really reduces healing time, I think. Reduces bruising and swelling when taken prior to stuff like surgery too. (not Right Prior, you know the no-food/fluids drill!)

Recover fast, and try and enjoy a few hours to yourself! Sarajane

Good luck with it. I had mine done when I was 23. No ice cream for me though. For breakfast next morning I was offered porridge which I did not like, because I refused it I was given an extra slice of crispy fried bacon with egg and fried bread followed by toast. Took me a few weeks before I got my sense of taste back. Will be thinking of you Shirley
