There is a terrific rock shop in Red Bluff about 25 mi S of Anderson. I don't think they are ope on weekends, but they will probably be at the show. The owner says"if it exists, I have it" just FYI ps: I am in Redding, depending on the date we could take a couple of crashers in our spare bedroom.

great! i'm re-discovering my love of "rocks". even ones no one can identify. i'm a big fan of "agate" and "river-rock" as descriptions.

i'll give it some serious thought . . . i just have to get past my own prejudices regarding Redding!

Hey, just because it is 120 degrees in July & August and peopled by rednecks who spend a week every spring running around town robbing banks and shooting guns in the air-what's not to like??????? ^o) (tongue poking thru cheek):-) We have $500 man hole covers and $40,000 light poles and a $23million bridge to no where. It did not snow much in the past, but new yr's week we got 27" at our house.

ROTFL! yep - that's about it. then there's the "Concrete Cowboys" that do all of that fundraising. try finding out where that money goes, sometime. i think they got rid of the newspaper editor that was into so many things that were "conflicts of interest". when i tried asking questions about those two, i was warned about the number of bodies at the bottom of Lake Shasta.

on the bright side, one of my favorite authors just moved there - his wife was hired by the "Wretched Flashlight". maybe there's hope? nah

- probably not!

Oh, yeah. If I've forgotten what it was sold to me as, it's generally either "agate" or "jasper".

Somebody was selling Hawaiian *lava rock* beads at Intergem! Is that cool or what? I bought 2 strands of nugget-style. It's matte black and very rough; it'll be impossible to use in anything but an ethnic-style piece, but I just had to have some!

We have a foundation here established by an old lumber family(they had no kids). (McConnell Foundation)They decided to have a bridge to connect the 2 parts of the Tutle Bay Museum ( which they also financed most of) (the x museum director is now engaged to the foundation CEO)which are on different sides of the Sacramento River. They hired an unknown spanish architect to design a bridge unlike any bridge in the USA. It is a pedestrian bridge that is(make that will be) floored with glass, but you can't see thru the glass to keep from scaring people. The architect's name is Calatrava and he was just chosen to design the new transportation hub(subway station) at the site of the world trade towers. He also designed an incredible museum in Minneapolis(I think)that has moving butterfly wings 20 stories tall to provide shade. The bridge was to be $8 million, it is five yrs late and now $23 mil. And of course the architect is now world famous. I think if you went to

(web site of the "wretched flashlight") and did a search you could see a picture of its current state and maybe a sketch of how it is supposed to look. The foundation also spent $50mil on a new office headquarters. After the old lady died of course.

actually it is asphalt cowboys. and their week is soon. thay are already rehearsing. I thought you had to live in redding to call the record searchlight the wretched flashlight. I think the bodies are in the concrete of shasta dam. (not) the water at the bottom of the lake is so cold that bodies do not decompose so they never float to the surface. the bureau of reclamation says the water in the Sacramento river is now too warm for salmon. I feel certain it was warmer when it ran free and not under a 700' dam.

i did. for five VERY long years.

well, i dunno. whenever the lake gets warm enough [because the level drops] some of them float to the surface. . .

Hey! It is not a bridge to nowhere....it goes from one side of the river to the other! I am just waiting for it to be painted something other than the glaring white that it is now. It is so clearly visible from my house - sticks up like a sore thumb!

I have some funny lava rock that has been whipped up in the air vents of a volcano. It's very strange looking.

it IS. there are a few curmudgeons, and very few not willing to answer questions. some are fascinated by what i do because it is so different from what they do. i've volunteered to "re-do" their club phone book, so the club president is very happy with me at the moment.

i'm REALLY looking forward to the picnic in August where they hold classes.......
