Question: COMPLETELY OT

Howdy Beady ones! Lately I feel like a rubber band about to snap. I am constantly edgey. Is anyone else going through menopause and if so is that how you feel? I am already treated for other wonderful things like depression and anxiety. This is different. It is like being completely wound and edgey all the time. I suspect it is hormonal. While I do not have hot flashes, I get really hot skin sometimes, so that all I can stand for covers at night is a sheet. I also have really heavy periods.

Anyone ever feel like this?

thanks for permitting my non beady question!

I"m starting to have some of these feelings after the hysterectomy. Only when my family starts "dumping" on me, though. Feel free to email me if you need to chat. Craftigirl at earthlink dot net

Oh, how I feel for you!

I had horrible hot flashes for about three years. All of a sudden, they stopped.

Menopause affects everyone differently, but the hormonal crap can really make you crazy. My Celexa pretty much takes care of everything for me in that regard.

Good luck...

Hi Kathy -

Do you feel kinda like this?

I did this fused glass project several years ago when I was in the midst of early menopause. I really felt this way during that class - note the vertical slit yellow reptilian eyes. LOL!! Seriously, it's fairly normal, but perhaps you should have a chat with your gynecologist about HRT (if you want to go that route) or some herbal remedies that are available. Also, heavy periods can make you anemic, so a blood count might be in order too. I had a hysterectomy 16 months ago, but kept my ovaries so I still have some of the menopausal symptoms, which I keep under control with a *very* low dose of estrogen.

E-mail me if you want to chat about it. It's not fun sometimes, but moving from matron to crone has its advantages!

I'm past the point of mood swings and tension (most of the time anyway) but I am familiar with what you're going through. The worst things I have to deal with now are forgetfulness and hot flashes.

I wanted to try HRT but my doc wouldn't prescribe anything because I smoke. I used St. John's Wort for awhile (a spray for the inside of the cheek). I had pretty good results with that, although you do need to be very careful with herbal remedies.

Hot flashes can vary from person to person. My sister would have maybe one or two in a week, but end up totally drenched. I have about 10-15 a day, plus night sweats.

For the tension and edgy feelings, what worked for me was spending lots of time on my own, very quietly. And sometimes crying to release the tension.

Good luck, Carla

Hi Kathy, After 6 or 8 years I seem to be about through with perimenopause. This year has been the first time that I have not had a heavy period every month. For some reason, I have not had that universal symptom of hot flashes.

What I had was dry skin, and some mood imbalance, and significant problems related to thyroid failure. Definitely anxiety and Depression.

After waiting things out things seem better this spring. I hope you are more responsive to meds than I've been.

Kathy: I feel like that around the time that I "should" have my period. I still have one every 4 months or so, but I get the edginess right around then.

I do get the flashes, the sweating like a horse...usually when I'm in front of a class!!

My Celexa and Wellbutrin take care of the depression, but do nothing to take care of the anxiety and edginess that happens then.

It's likely to be "normal" for you, sorry.

I considered doing the Cafe Press thing with it but didn't know if there'd be any interest. I'm glad you like her - actually she's my favorite fused glass piece!

hmnn... I'm sure it could be normal hormonal stuff... but it sounds a lot like hyperthryoid too. Maybe you should get in to your doc and have some tests run? Free T3, Free T4 and TSH.

Hope you figure it out and feel better soon...

I had a friend who had such bad, BAD hot flashes....she couldn't go on HRT because she was a recent breast cancer survivor. Single mastectomy. But her flashes were the totally-drenching kind, the sort that makes you almost faint they're so severe. And she had them *constantly*.

After several years of this (I don't know how she got through those years!), she just gave up and had the other breast removed. She went on HRT, and said she was so glad she went this route because now she had her life back.
