LOL that's funny, Lori. I keep finding your early posts on WC, and they crack me up when I compare what you can do now to what you were asking then. But--your questions are proving wonderful teaching tools to me!

Ahhh, it's all there in history now.

I guess you should be careful what you put in writing, eh?

For the most part I think I am. :o)

Wow that was a long time ago. I've always loved glass (and glassblowing). I have collections of glass...

I remember getting a LARK Catalog in the mail.... not long after seeing "lampwork" beads in Ornament Magazine. I thought - how cool. At Christmas, in 1996, I got some cash - and ordered the Lark Catalog Hothead kit... but when it came I really didn't use it right away..... until - hmmm must have been spring maybe, I should have written down the date!

I finally found a tank of MAPP-- put my set up on the coffee table in the basement -- and lit that torch... I remember making a few small beads - at first... and thought "this isn't too hard." I only had a crock pot with perlite in it at the time..... (never used the cooling blanket)... I played at that Hot Head for several hours - until I ran out of gas! LOL In the next few weeks - -I had fun. I saved a strand of the beads I made in that FIRST MONTH -- I had an enameling oven - and crockpot cooled/ batch annealed by hand the beads I made... here is a picture of the beads I made in the first month that I made beads...

aren't they funky??? LOL After about 5 months of playing with the Hot Head - I ordered a Nortel mid-range... had to re-arrange my basement for a studio - which took another two months. A friend on the internet coached me through how to set up the tanks, hoses, etc.... but I had NEVER SEEN a real "torch" in action.... Now - when I lit that Nortel for the first time, with my kids watching in AWE.... as it shot a two foot flame out.... now THAT was something.... and I've been a bead making addict ever since..... LOL

I showed Adam the pic, and told him--there's our bar, baby! We've got a month to make that, once we start! He said (and this is why I married and am desperately in love with this man) "Don't worry, honey, we'll be savants!"
