Fulling/felting quick question

I know that some wools full/felt better than others..... besides Cascade= , =

which brands are 'quick' and non-hairy felters? Gawd, that looks like a very badly worded query! Noreen

I have had great success with the lopi style yarns like Patons UpCountry. The low twist and soft wooly texture is nice to work with and gives a wonderful dense finish. There are many sources for lopi, you may try Texere Yarns in UK (google their name) I have found lopi style yarns in various shops as well.

here is a url that has a good photo of UpCountry.

felting is soooo fun!

Noreen,

I have always liked Brown Sheep's yarns for this. I've used both the Nature's Pride and Lamb's Wool (both worsted, obviously!). The only other yarn I've fulled is Lopi and that took muuuuuuch longer (mittens though, so size could have had something to do with it) and came out much hairier. I still do shave my Brown Sheep items though, because I like the look better that way.

Whatcha makin?

I've had good luck with Lion's Brand Fisherman's wool. I've dyed it, knit it, then felted. Always with great, unfuzzy results!

Jean and Noreen, my experience with Lopi Icelandic yarn, has not been great. It does not full/felt very well at all.

Ever so good to know because I really like the look of Lion's Brand Fisherman's when it is knitted tight, and have started some projects. I guess I should play with the swatches a bit more. LOL

Wooly I have worked with the white buffalo stuff and it works very well, it dyes well also, and fulls like a charm.

Surgery this morning, once I got past the Percocet pukes and woke up I was OK :) Just can't type very fast, or knit. I'll be able to spin long-draw tho!
