Book question

Does anyone have the book "Quick Star Quilts and Beyond" by Jan Krentz? From what little I could glean, it appears you need special rulers or templates (I.e. diamond shaped) to do the quilts. Is this true? The cover quilt is just gorgeous, but I don't want to purchase more templates/rulers if I don't have to.

Many thanks, Trixie

Sorry I know nothing about this particular book. But, I do want to say that very rarely is a special ruler *really* needed. It might be the ruler that makes it 'quick'! Templates are a different matter - they are more often really helpful - particularly those which involve triangles and where they have had the corners cut so that you can match the whole length (rather than matching from 'actual' corner to 'actual' corner by means of some sort of mark. Nevertheless, it is usually possible to make your own template, if you are that way inclined. (I never even think of buying a template! but then I am well known to be weird and enjoy mathematical types of puzzle >ggDoes anyone have the book "Quick Star Quilts and Beyond" by Jan Krentz? From

16 seams meeting at the center? You're kidding, right? No. I know you're not but that sounds like a challenge that would sully my sweet disposition. Polly

Trixie, I don't know whether the ruler is absolutely necessary, but I can tell you that Jan Krentz has fantastically good instructions on how to do what she writes about; she's also a wonderful and generous teacher. In her past books (I don't have this newest one), she's given instructions on how to do the cutting with "regular" rulers, so I suspect there are alternate instructions in this book in order to do the same. Just a guess.

Why don't you write to her and ask?

Wow, cool Nann! I get books from the library frequently and was disappointed they don't have this one (yet). I will explore the interlibrary load option.

suggest the title to your own library to add to any list they might keep. you're the customer and you'd like to see this one in the library. unless the librarian or someone who works there is also a quilter they'd have little idea what to get. let them know that with the current recession more folks like yourself are taking up crafts that can recycle fabrics to make useful quilts for their beds to keep warm in winter. cant hurt to ask anyhow. j.
