Re: Got my stash addition today

The

Does anybody know where that color name comes from or what it means? I'm curious, and don't think I've ever seen it except refering to the S. crystals. Sarajane

It's the name of a particular color of Sapphire, which is quite close to the color of the crystal. Very, very expensive.

It's the name of a "ruby"-- not sure if it's a real ruby or a spinel (sp?). The name is from one of the Indian dialects-- not sure if it's the name of someONE or someTHING, though. Kaytee "Simplexities" on

Point of information:

Chemically speaking, ruby and sapphire are the same thing: crystalized corundum. However, in order to be a Ruby, a stone has to be a

*particular* color of red. All other colors are sapphire. There are, in fact, red sapphires, as well as green, white, black, pink, yellow, brown and colorless, depending on what impurities the stone carries.

Padparadscha, if it's a red color, is probably classifed as a sapphire.

no Kaytee, it's not..well, technically because sapphires and rubies are the same it is, but it is referred to as a sapphire. It is a beautiful pinky-orange, almost salmony in color and costs a fortune. It has been described as a cross in color between a lotus blossom and a sunset.

My sister has one in her flagship store and it is beautiful. If you've only seen them in manmade or lab-created, the color cannot even compare.

Thanks, Arondelle, I didn't know that--I thought ALL the red ones were rubys. Sarajane

You're welcome. :o)

Remember all that inexpensive jewelry featuring "genuine sapphires, rubies or emeralds"? Off-hand, I'd say that the "rubies" involved are actually red sapphire, and the "emerald" is a green sapphire or aquamarine. (Emeralds and Aquamarines are also related, emeralds being a specific color green. True Emeralds are more rare than diamonds, and far more expensive.) This wouldn't be a bad thing, gems being gems after all, except they really should tell it like it is.

Of course, there *are* those folks out there who can't tell dichroic glass from Friendly Plastic, and who probably couldn't tell a red sapphire from a ruby -- and wouldn't really care. :o)

Yep. I'm feeling better. But I'll be visiting the doc this week. Thanks for asking!

glad to hear it! I didn't like the sound of your symptoms either. Pesky part is, it could be your heart/lungs or it could be something much simpler, like muscle/nerve spasms in your chest or neck and jaw. Even gas!

If the MD's come up blank, please do think about a chiropracter visit--with all you have been doing extra, you could easily be out of allignment and have nerves tweaked. Sarajane
