Not me. Unless your french wires are an unusual size, I'd get an accurate picture with them as the reference point.

no frames at all works best, if possible. not only do they annoy me to the extreme, but they are just about impossible to create good links for.

A ruler with both English and metric measurements -is- going to be more univerally recognized as a reference than any kind of national coin. So if your market is international, that makes more sense as the way to go.

Yeah, I know, there's something about Sooz's "haw" that makes me have to giggle along, too!

Ha ha BESIDES that, funny person!

Ok... I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that anyone who is buying beads of any kind online (as opposed to strictly in person) should have a little ruler by their computer monitor. After you've been buying beads for a while, when someone says a focal is 48mm x 25mm you will automatically 'see' that size in your head. I'm sure this is easier for some folks than for others, so the rulers will continue to serve you well over time :-)

For less than $2, you can have a nice two ruler set:

It's really worth it.

IMHO, anything in a bead picture besides beads can be distracting. That goes for rice, hands, coins, rulers... You name it. But again, this is just my opinion.

Here's something you can do with a FMG catalog - even if you don't want to order anything from them! Inside the back cover of their new catalog are the following:

  1. Their disclosure guidelines for gemstone (natural, dyed, enhanced, etc.)
  2. Cabochon & gemstone size & shape chart.
  3. Beader's guide to jewelry metals
  4. Stone cuts - facet patterns for things like diamonds and other fancy stones.
  5. List of different pliers and what they're used for
  6. Beads per inch with a LIFE SIZED photograph of 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12mm beads
  7. Cord size illustrations from 0.25 to 3mm
  8. Wire gauge chart, illustrating the thickness of 24, 22, 20 and 18 gauge wire AND
  9. 10.5 inch / 262.25mm RULER!!!

Works for me!

it's not mine - honest! Updated June 21, 1997. Copyright © 1997 Randy D. Ralph. All rights reserved. it's REALLY old, as far as the Internet is concerned. but it does tell you which colors will show properly.

These two are also fun to use - web apps that test your color choices online.

With this one, every color you click displays as a background color and text color:

This is exactly what I have ... a little metal 6" ruler marked in both metric and inch measurements. It means I don't have to guess ... I can check the size as I look at the object in question.
