Re: Just trying outlook...

replying to my own message now, does the attachment show up as a link to click on or is the picture just there? I want it as a link and I see it in my post. How do I attach a link to one of my pics that I've got saved on my puter? Help

Your previous message hasn't shown up for me. Attachments (or binaries) aren't allowed in newsgroups unless they have "binaries" in the title (e.g. rec.crafts.beads.binaries (which doesn't exist, BTW)). Many servers will reject binary posts to non-binary groups. If you want to show off a pic you'll have to upload it to a website and post the address here (copy what's in the address bar), most newsreaders will make it into a clickable link as long as it starts http://

Hope that helps, just squeak if you need more help.

It showed up for me, as an optional download. Please don't post photos directly to the group, since many/most people still have dial up connections, and downloading a photo is punishingly slow. For a free website on which to post photos, I recommend Picturetrail.

For permanent storage or a decent amount of web space, the site costs about ~$20/year. However, they have a decent free trial which I found to be worth having. (Later on, I bought the $20 package).

Also, I strongly recommend your saving your photos in a compressed manner, probably as a .jpg You uploaded a Bitmapped version (.bmp), which is enormous, compared to the same photo saved as a .jpg Even on a web site, most people with a dial up connection won't wait the time it takes to download a picture thats 303K.

ALL good bits of advice!

Kathy, I think I emailed my reply to you rather than post it here. Sorry about that. I opened an album with picture trail. Sorry to anyone who opened my attachment. I think I've got it changed to a jpg now although I did that after I uploaded to picture trail so I'm not sure if it will take a long time to open on picture trail or not. I'll have to check that out. Thanks for your help.

With my newsreader, a binary attachment shows up as a multi-thousand-line post full of garbage characters. If I hadn't seen the size first (and therefore skipped it), I'd have been seriously annoyed.

As others have mentioned, the correct approach to posting pictures into a non-binary newsgroup is to upload them to your own webspace and then post the URL for the link.

I've never used Outlook, so I can't help you there. I'm using Free Agent; for me the attachment was a link that I clicked. When I clicked it I was given the option of downloading the pic or viewing it.
