If you type in "lampwork 4WC", all the auctions you get will be (should be) artisan-made by members of the WetCanvas forum... but you'll also be excluding a whole bunch of really good non-WC artists, and some WC-ers who don't put that in their auctions.

I'm thinking it'd be cool if there was a lampwork guild for internet sellers... something very low-key, where we could choose to participate in certain agreed-upon listing conventions for the benefit of our customers. For example, if it's not enough to say "handmade" and "annealed" we can say "Artisan" and "kiln-annealed" and "Guild", and let people know so they can search under those terms. As long as everyone participating chose to use the same terms, it would make it easy for buyers to search using those keywords.

I guess the ISGB fills some of that need already, though. It might also be a good forum for discussing the idea. So's WetCanvas, though it's for artists in all media.

Unless you're paying cash, we *do* ask for personal information; your credit card and ID! Writing a check? It better have your current address on it, which better match the driver's license we're going to ask for, or you will be turned down with a polite "I'm sorry, we just can't accept personal checks without valid ID... do you have another form of payment? Credit card perhaps?"

If *everyone* had their picture ID out and ready, merchants would be far more likely to ask the few who didn't present it immediately. Unfortunately, so many people make it such an ordeal just to look at their ID cards that many clerks (maybe even most) have just given up. I

If everyone who wrotes "see ID" on their credit card automatically got out their ID, the few people who didn't would immediately raise an eyebrow.

(BTW, clerks are actually required by law to refuse credit cards that say "see ID" and are not signed. It's a law that everyone ignores, but it's worth knowing that in the case of credit card theft, the credit card company does NOT have to cover you if you have not signed your card!)

Damn straight! Home Depot got in BIG trouble with MC/Visa a couple of years ago by accepting unsigned cards... several of which were being used by "checkers" from the credit card company. I think they actually had their merchant account

When we're at a con and someone presents an unsigned card, we *always* explain this and ask them to sign it before we'll take it. Then we check that signature

That's a tidbit worth remembering. How about signing it, but putting SEE ID very visibly underneath?
