Dear Dr.,

I feel that I am faint of heart after seeing these lovely sculptures. I know that you prescribed beading to strengthen my heart, but oh, my at the outcome.

Your devoted patient....

I'm a Barbie fan. These dolls make me swoon -- and want to learn how to do the face repainting. I've made clothes and jewelry for my "girls" for years, and having been working on a Witchy Barbie for a while -- but the faces. Oooh! :: faint::

Anyhoo, Harry, (like you'd have time!) there are all sorts of books out there for DYI soft sculpture dolls. One of my favorites is "Anatomy of a Doll" by Susanna Oroyan (C&T Press).

I can see a mermaid bedizened with Paua and pearls.... :o)

< You make a good point. lol Time is something there is to little of, but I will check and see about the book you recommended to see if I would be interested. I have always wanted to make mask also... like the Halloween ones you see. I would also like to try and make a mask of myself... alos like a Halloween one. lol

I've been lurking (and learning, and enjoying!), but had to pop up to respond to this! First of all, love the word 'bedizened' :) Second, I can just picture that mermaid, and she would be breathtaking! Someone please make her and post pictures. I don't have nearly the skill to do it myself, but the picture in my head is lovely ;) Also, second the suggestion of checking out Susanna Oroyan's books. I think even a person with no interest in dolls would be inspired to try dollmaking! I started reading this group because I had begun playing with seed beads, and now you guys have me wanting to make beads and re-do Barbie dolls. Just what I need, *more* crafts/arts to take up! lol I'm going back to lurking now. Thanks for all the inspiriation!

< I would be in heaven! Can you picture Darrel Hanna covered with Paua and Pearls? Splash would be a whole new movie and I would be first in line to watch! I love mermaids, but it would be hard to go for a walk in the park. lol Well back into my muldane world of fantasy......

< Let me be the first to welcome you to the group. :) Maybe between the two of us we can talk one of these very talented ladies into making us some beautiful lampwork mermaids with Paua color tones? Golden mesh skin please. :)

< I am not a collector, but I would love to see them and there is a good chance I might start. These dolls are out of this world! I would be ahppy to send you Paua shells to carve and shape for the jewlery items. My talent lies in the tumblers.

Tell you what, Harry, after i recover from my hysterectomy (date to be determined this Friday..aaaaack) first week of April.....soooo....should be sometime in June when i'm ready....I'll let you know, and we can get to work...what do you think?

I am so sorry you have to go through that. Wy wife had to and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I wish you a speedy recovery. Prayers are in the making. Word of advice: Do not eat any choclate right after you wake up from surgery. Yep... my wife did... wasn't pretty, but she wouldn't be quite untill I went and got her some and then she cussed me later for doing it! What's that all about it? lol

Your plan sounds great and I will be sure to search through my Paua and find the best pieces for these items. I know they will have to be the strongest I can find. I also think coating them with acetate, (clear fingernail polish), will make them stronger, but that will be something you may have to do after you have shaped them to perfection and have them done and ready. :) This is going to be exciting! A goal... that's what I needed... a goal! Thank you.

Harry, you need to take lessons from my Bob. When I had my surgery last April, I kept asking for a Diet Coke when I woke up. ("Woke up" is a relative term) Bob would say, "Hon, you just had a Diet Coke. You don't want to drink too much, do you?"

Of course, I hadn't had any, but it shut me up. I was so whacked out on morphine that you could have told me I was on another planet, and I'd have believed it.
