Re: OT: Update on house!

Your sister will understand if you have to draft her to pack boxes instead of sipping tea in the kitchen. And nothing will keep you from talking while you pack and haul. At least you aren't moving cross-country!

You can't help that the timing is under the control of the fates, and not you...

Good luck with your auctions. I hope they help you over the hump into the downhill stretch.

Deirdre

I would like to NOT spend my sister's entire visit moving, so that gives >us three days to get it done. Happening? OH, I DON'T THINK SO!

Thank all you guys SOOO much! It helps immeasurably knowing you're there, pulling for me.

The seller has scheduled an electrician to come in early next week, and we amended the offer to pay half the cost (our share is only $325!) so it's getting there... when it's done, we fax the final inspection to the insurance co, and they OK the coverage, and the loan goes through. It COULD be next week. Again, I'm not counting on it!

Right now they're asking that I explain where a deposit to my account in July came from. Yeah. LIKE I REMEMBER! It was a bunch of checks, all saved up and deposited at once. Now I have to figure out which checks. GRRR!

I'm still nervous. Even though I've bought *and* refinanced this house already, been through it all, I feel like a punk kid who's going to be exposed as a sham. "You thought we were going to loan to YOU? HAHAHAHA! Nice try!"

This is a better house in a better neighborhood than I've ever hoped to be in. (When I found out what zip code it's in, I laughed... I *never* waste my time looking at listings in that zip code, because I can't afford them!) We're getting it for a great price, and I feel at the same time like "Yes, this is my home" and "It's too good for the likes of me". It's not fancy, it's a modest house (you'll see how modest when I post photos) but I grew up poor.

I won't feel like it's NOT going to be yanked out from under me until we sign the closing documents.

Back in the eighties, my then-fiance and I bought a house while I was making a living as a self-employed bass player, and we had to get a mortgage-- the first time for both of us. He was also self-employed; he owned his own business. They put us through hell. Every day I needed to prove something to someone about my income in some new, creative way. I remember the feeling well-- like no matter what I gave them, it wasn't good enough, and they wanted something else. It seemed like they just wanted to torture us, but in the end we got our mortgage and our house.

Hang in there. Eventually it works out. It just takes a little longer and it's a little more work when you aren't employed in the usual manner. I am sorry you're having to deal with all of this right now, but hopefully you're close to having it all done!

And hon, you *deserve* a nice home in a nice area. I'm so thrilled that you've found something that you're this happy with. It will all be worth it-- especially if the area you're buying in stays desirable and property values increase :)

Thank you, Laura... I think/hope that it'll close soon, and then we can move, and then NEVER MOVE AGAIN!

I have never owned a house, or lived in one that was owned, just rented (okay, all houses have to be owned, but I think ya'll know what I mean).

Moving into here, Tuesday will be 3 weeks that we have had the keys. I

*still* feel like the financing can be turned down, and the house returned, like when we tried to buy a car in December (this was when Ken tried to keep the other car, *AND* buy a new one), and had to return it after a week.

I know it doesn't *QUITE* work that way. But when Ken got a letter in the mail, then said "I have to go take care of some business, I will be right back"...I got that feeling.

Guess it won't go away, till we sell the condo, and get another one...then it will be on the new one. LOL!

I'm glad someone else knows what I mean... and in time, you will truly feel as if the house is *yours*. This little house that we're leaving is MINE; I struggled so hard to buy it that I have a strong sense of ownership!
