One of the things I like best about this newsgroup is that if we fvck up and say things badly, it's really OK. Because we're all fallible. In a support group I subscribe to I often feel I have to walk on eggshells, because I am seen by someone or other as bullying and insensitive for stating my view and not changing it. Or for not giving hugs and encouragement to someone I felt was charging full tilt at the edge of a cliff.

All of use use a shorthand occassionally that can get us into trouble, if someone takes exception to it.

I knew exactly what Sooz meant about flea market and hobbyist. It's like selling trinkets, even nice ones. About selling little things that are pretty and OK. The things we here aspire to improve from. In a market that is not particular discerning, where sellers can't really tell you much about their product.

And while there may be nicer flea markets, and sometimes you find artists and very knowledgeable people there, generally the people sell as is and all sales final, and often do not take personal responsibilty for the durability of the product. Care more about selling than knowing.

To not want to learn more and care more about your product is "odd to say the least"

yep.

*i* thought i knew where Sooz was coming from. but i could also see how to someone else she would sound harsh. i didn't disagree with what she said, but more in how she said it. the reaction seemed to prove her correct, in the long run.

I have to comment about flea markets... they vary ENOURMOUSLY from area to area. To one person it may be denigrating indeed to be associated with a flea market, while to another it's no more denigrating than to be associated with a lemonade stand. The big one in Portland, for instance, can be summed up in one word...SKETCH-O-RAMA. That place is chock-a-block with fenced goods and import crap. I've been to others, though, that were more like craft fairs!
