Re: tiny pearls -- stringing & finishing

Pearls are traditionally strung on silk with a knot between each pearl. The silk comes on a card with a self needle, and comes in sizes different from other stringing material. Using this technique will give it a more expensive look, but simple stringing is much faster and easier. My second best suggestion for stringing would be 49 strand .012 Soflex.

I use my Rio catalogue extensively for findings because I like a paper catalogue instead of looking at a screen, and they delivery quickly (if you don't have to order a catalogue first). And local stores always are so expensive! Be sure not to use gold plate.

Warning, though: silk *will* stretch! If you plan to use it, a good idea might be to dampen your length of thread first and hang it from the top of something high, with some sort of weight tied to the bottom end. Once it dries, it should be stretched about as much as it's going to.

Alternatively, I've had good results using .012 Beadalon and putting seed beads between the pearls, to give the illusion of knots.
