Stringing question

I just wondered what most folks use for stringing? I don't mean seed beads, but lampwork and bali type stuff. I've used Beadalon and Accuflex. Is there anything better?

My bali eventually seems to cut through whatever I use. I take the dremel and file down the insides, but it still happens, after a while.

I like SoftFlex and SoftTouch. I've had Beadalon break, but the SoftFlex products seem to hold up.

Responding to my own post , I never buy from the SoftFlex website cuz their postage is *TERRIBLE*! [e.g. A $10 order from them yielded a $10 s/h fee. Ye gods...] I'm always looking for a good source for this stuff. Any suggestions?

I like buying from wigjig.com - I think it's free shipping for $60 orders, otherwise it's 7.95. I usually buy a couple of 100ft spools of SoftTouch at a time, add in a couple piddly bits and before you know it, free shipping!

Thanks y'all! I've never tried SoftToch or SoftFlex, so I'll give one of those a shot.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have been using 'Tiger Tail'...its nylon coated and seems to work great....if anyone have problems with tiger tail please let me know as I am fairly new to beading and I am SOOooOO happy I found this group!! Anyway I am having a blast beading and look forward to reading up on this group...lots of great ideas I have learned from reading :) Seems like alot of really nice people in here :)
My nic is CountryStuff and I love to craft hence the name...(also it is a nic name (handle) I had for many years when we were on the ham radio and CB :) I loved talking worldwide~!
On the subject of country music although I do not *hate* country music...my heart lies in rock and roll~ classic rock and R&B...oh and the newer songs the kids listen too...like hip pop...ect. I have to keep up with my neices and nefwews :) They count on Aunt Laurie all 40+ of them !! :o)
Thanks all...and have a great day! Looking forward to more great post to learn from. Any tricks of the trade welcome!! Any chance there is a binarie group for the beading crafts?? I have seen some really great websites in here. WOW WOW WOW....some beautifull bead makers out there...yes I am getting bored with the craft store beads!! I want some really cute beads to build my jewelry stash! Thanks in advance~~ Hope this is one of those friendly groups!! :o))
Hi Laurie,
I've heard people say they didn't like tigertail because it kinks, but I've never used it myself. For some things, I can't see that being a problem. The way my bracelets are strung with lampwork and bali, it'd be awfully hard to kink them, I think.
Hi there~ Hmm... strange I have never had it kink on me yet. I just finished 2 braclets and earring sets and started on another braclet :) Have had very good luck with it so far so I guess I will continue to use it till otherwise. My braclets have been coming out fine~~ Thanks for that info I will keep an eye on it :) By the way...what size / brand crimping beads do you use? I was just wondering that also...mine are ok but I have a feeling there are better ones out there I've yet to discover~~~
Thanks in advance and thanks for your reply ! Happy Beading!!
I use SoftFlex. I used Beadalon when I first started, but it kept breaking and kinking, so I had to throw out the spool I had and restring everything I'd used it for.
I buy mine from ebay. the seller beadaholique has softflex products for a reasonable price and good shipping ($1.10 for first item, and they combine shipping).
Jerri, I use Softflex 019 almost exclusively. I did try Beadalon once, but it kinked at the crimps and then broke. I buy Softflex by the 100 ft roll, usually from Suzanne Hye on Ebay (vintagesuzanne or Hye on Beads ebay store), or sometimes from GemORama (wholesale only) in the Boston area if I'm ordering other stuff from them. I've been very pleased with Softflex and feel it is well worth the extra cost.
I like SoftFlex, although it is possible that I don't have pieces old enough to break!! I got some at a bargain price during another buy. Glad to hear about other sources. Peace, Lilyflower lilyflower @ theworld.com
I use Softflex 49 strand. Usually in .19 or .24 for really heavy stuff. It holds up well and drapes nicely.
Hi all
my name is Kaz and am beading mad I am always wanting to learn new techniques and bead as a hobby not for profit I do sell my items but not for money making profit I just sell it because I love the thought of someone out there wearing someing I have made and also it finances more beads buying (which as you all know is addictive!!!!)
This is the first time I have posted on here. I have loved reading all the tips and experiances everyone have had.
I live in the UK and we don't have any beading groups (that I have found any way) I rely on USA magazines and groups to get help and advice.
I have been reading what everyone has been saying about softflex and am most interested. I use beadalon at the moment but I will now try the softflex I have also heard of soft touch is there much differance in the two?
also if anyone knows where it is available to UK for a good price please could you let me know.
Thanks all
