Stringing Medium Question

Yes, Dr. Sooz, I do have a question!

I mostly make bracelets, but have recently branched out to necklaces. My first one was strung on silk, but I'm not sure it has the qualities I want for my next one.

The first requirement is that I must be able to knot it instead of crimp it. I cannot use pliers (a physical thing). Naturally, I'll make the necklace long enough to go over my head. :-)

Second, I'd like for it to have some "body". The silk just hangs straight down from my neck. I'd like the strand to have a bit more of a rounded, loopy appearance. I think something like Beadalon has that kind of body, but any directions I've seen for it involve using a crimp.

Do I have any other choices?

Thanks,

Gina

When I first started stringing necklaces I knotted Beadalon/SoftFlex with no problem (also knotted with/through beadtips, both clamshell and the half bead type). A spot of glue on the knot is a bit reassuring as well. I no longer use beadtips but it worked well! :)

I like a Spectra line for the body and for not having to crimp. 14 lb test Power Pro from the fishing dept works well. And if I squash the line with smooth pliers to make it long and skinny it goes easily into a size 10 needle.

You could try knotting Soft Touch size .010 - it's really thin, but still has a lot of strength and body.
