Stringing pearls advice.

Dec 17, 2006 3 Replies

Would love some advice on stringing pearls. I used silk beading cord to string up a necklace with some square freshwater pearl beads but the strand is very stiff and does not hang correctly. These pearls are more difficult to work with than I expected. Would love some tips on how to string and design with these odd shaped pearls. I would like to make it multistranded. This is a christmas present for my Mom. I have looked online but have not found any helpful links. Deb

Not being able to see the beads I imagine the square ends of the pearls are tight together on the silk thus making one solid line. Have you tried knotting in between them so this holds the pearls apart. Also safeguards loss if the silk breaks as it gets older.

Also you could put a smaller bead in between the pearls maybe a crystal.

Just my opinion. Shirley

i have a string of rather large freshwater pearls, irregularly shaped, and these hang perfectly with the knot between each. this also allows the whole of each pearl to be seen which highlights their beauty - i recommend this method.
