Beading Pearls

I need a little help finding and selecting "string" to restring some pearls.

I've done a bit of stringing in the past but there was a local bead supply store back then and they told me what I needed. They've gone out of business so now I'm on my own with no knowledge.

The beads I'm trying to string were once a multistrand pearl bracelet. I'm turning them into a pearl necklace, expecting to knot between each bead. The hole in the pearls is very small, less than .5m (the smallest diameter I can measure with my crude tools) and much smaller than the semi-precious stones I've done in the past.

Questions: - what size string/thread do I need and where can I buy it ? - will I be able to simply pass the string through each bead as I did before without difficulty or is this going to be exceedingly difficult to ? - where's a good supplier for limited (very small) quantities of semi precious beads and 14K gold balls if I decide to put accent pieces in ?

Thanks, Bob

You need silk thread (or a synthetic substitute) for knotting pearls. I can't estimate what size you need, but I'd buy a very small size, probably "B".

Silk thread for your application comes on cards, but two in case one gets messed up.

Silk knotting thread is available at almost all local beading stores, or at any number of online sources. You can find a whole bunch of great places through the Links List, maintained by our own favorite Sooz.

Definitely check the links list. I like Monsterslayer or South Pacfic beading for these kinds of things.

Good Luck!

And the silk comes pre threaded usually.
