Preface with AD "I'm not a business" --- is a false statement - since

on your opening page it clearly states:

"and I'm sure you will find that special gift for someone on your shopping list (even if that's you !)" and the items have prices. That makes you a BUSINESS (ask the IRS...)

Gezzz Cheryl, I think he was implying that he didn't have a professional business - like with a Tax ID number, etc.... Sounds like he is just some guy who had a lot of fun creating these little miniatures and one of his friends/family thought others might like them too and talked him into selling them. Granted, this WAS an advertisement so I guess an "AD" in the subject of his post should have been there but there was no need to get so hostile. It's Christmas after all.

Besides, with this being a jewelry group where people make all sorts of stuff, don't you think that many of us looked at his site and said to ourselves "If I wanted to, I could do that - but I don't want to so have at it and all the luck to you!"

Thanks Annie .... sorry I didn't know I should put AD in the header ??... but honestly, I don't really care if I sell any or not .... I just enjoy building the Shell People, and just wanted some feedback.

Of course, if I do sell one....that will mean I'll have to buy more shells, and build more !!!!! (oh the pain of it all ---- )

You folks are great, I'm glad you enjoyed looking at "the little guys"

Merry Christmas to you all !

OK... I'm learning .... but not looking to be flamed either.... I just wanted some feedback and couldn't really give a &*(^** if I ever sell one (that was my buddies idea )

Just like any "creation", it does no good, if no-one sees it ......... I thought my Shell People might put a smile on some faces this holiday season, and maybe give some of you crafters, some new idea's.

For what it's worth...... There are TWICE as many showcased that are NOT FOR SALE in the slideshow.

I just like building these things is all ........ what do you make Cheryl ????

Sorry - I wasn't meaning to FLAME - just to "inform." My point is - if you SELL online - and don't declare the income - you are probably in violation of your own state sales tax laws, and income IRS laws.... you are a "business" if you sell something and advertise it (doing so online makes you broadly visible too). Just warning you of saying "not a business" doesn't make you not a "business" (it's that damn lawyer in me! LOLOLOLOL) AND posting anything that you have a "price on" - is technically an "AD" posting here.... despite what others may say I make glass beads....

Dear Sterling, Cheryl is right. He's selling -- it's a business. It requires "AD" in the subject line. Especially since he's a total stranger to this NG.

Dr. Sooz, I never said she was wrong and if you read all that I wrote, you would see that I agreed with her, but you missed the point entirely - that being: It was not the message that was delivered, but the way in which it was delivered. I have seen plenty of times before where a stranger posts to the board not knowing exactly what is required for certain posts and someone from the group kindly informs them of the requirement. "Kindly" is the operative term here....You know that old thing our mothers used to say.... you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar... but this is all moot since Cheryl and the shell guy have already worked it out and all is well in cyber land.

Well, since you pointed out your use of "duh" which is, you have to admit, a condescending expression showing contempt for something considered stupid; should I have taken offense? Perhaps, but I didn't. As I tried to explain in previous post, it was not that she was wrong and it was not what she said but how she said it. I too "lurked" and read until I understood the complexities of the group and the way things are done prior to joining in. And, during my lurk time, I've read similar posts from regulars explaining the proper way to post an AD, but they all managed to be nice and helpful while still getting their point across. I didn't think The Shell Guy deserved the tongue lashing he got simply because he didn't know the rules. She could have been just a bit more PC about it. Look, I understand that you and Cheryl are probably buddies and you are only coming to the aid of a friend that you feel has been slighted, but like I said before - this is all very moot since Cheryl and the Shell guy have made amends and this thread is almost two weeks old.

Me? I've been here nearly 6 years. You know what? Shut up.
