Don't use crimp beads. You're new at this, and there's a learning curve. Get some FireLine or Power Pro, and knot it. Use two strands if you're nervous. Then dab the knot with nail polish.

It will hold. I promise.

I'm having the worse luck getting the crimping beads to crimp and I'm worried about the knots coming out... I have tried the nymo thread and it's not worked.... and I'm getting ready to go get the wire!! I'm wanting this to be strong and not come undone.... especially I'm hoping she will wear it alot.. and with a child.... who will probably eventually tug on it..... so I'm ready for someone to just tell me what to go buy... and what to do!

I agree with Kathy and you can get it at your nearest Walmart.

I wrote down the names and told my boyfriend and we will be going to wal-mart if it ever stops raining tonight!!! (he's been tying the knots for me.. using the same knots he uses when fishing.. )

Sheri, I don't understand. If you didn't have wire, what were you trying to crimp on?

I was told I had to do it with the monofilament

The corners of the metal would probably cut the monofilament -- IF monofilament were a durable enough material to use.

well we went to Wal-mart last night.. (too late to go to Hobby Lobby)... and while the only line they had in the fishing dept was the fire line..and I really didn't want to spend 12 bucks for it.... I went over to the craft dept and found "tigerwire extrafine"... it seems very flexible.... and I"m going to try it today and see what happens. I'm going to probably be redoing this bracelet in about a year or so anyway...... they want to have another child as soon as possible so I'll be redoing this one to add the new babies name!!! By then I'm sure I"ll have it all figured out..... I've already got mine going thru my mind.... and a few others.... then I guess it will be time to branch out to other kinds of jewelry!

I'm learning a lot here... I won't be using monofilament for anything having to do with jewelry.. unless I"m just testing out a stringing pattern!!! I PROMISE!!!! (right hand over my heart.. left hand on my box of beads!!)

well I got lucky this time.. it didn't kink on me...... but I know I will be redoing it real soon.... she's going to be wanting some charms added to it... and by then I will have had time to get the right stuff ... I had to get it done so that I could mail it off in time for mother's day.. (she will be visiting here in June so by then I will have the right stuff and I will redo while she is here.... )

I do appreciate everyone's help in this matter... as soon as she get's it for mother's day.. I will redo my web site and put up a picture of it... and by then I might even have mine done also!

Yes, there are still uses for monofilament. I use it to have things in windows temporarily. Temporarily because sunlight is about the most destructive thing for it. And I string beads on it for storage. Same for tiger wire. It is useful for temporary use. But prepare to replace the tiger wire at earliest convenience. It probably won't kink while you work on it, but rather after it's finished.

I paid $12.95 for a 125 yard spool of Fireline. Compared to $18.00/30 yard spool of SoftFlex, it was way worth it.

I've got the beads so close on it I don't know if it can kink!!! I imagine I will re-string it when she's here.. it won't take but a few minutes... and I can make any adjustment to the size... and add charms if she's found some she likes..... I added a teddy bear charm for the baby.. and a "made with love" charm at the end.... but there is plenty of room to add more charms. She's wanting a charm bracelet and this just might be the start of one....

I"m going to check some other places around here for power pro also..... we were just on a deadline last night.. (I ended up getting a migraine while we were shopping so I didn't finish the bracelet till this morning!)

Cruddy migraines. I hate them.

I have to say that I love my Fireline. Get the 6# test if you can, especially if you are going to be adding more charms in the future. I feel it's a great value for as much as you get on the spool. I do a lot of loom weaving and it's worked great so far. These ladies here pointed me in that direction and I'm glad I didn't turn back.

Margie sent me samples of Power Pro and I like it too. It's a bit thicker and isn't good for weaving, but it would be find for bracelets.

I would have like to have found the power pro..... I'm going to look around.. I've got some time now.... and now that I have an idea of what I am doing..... (i'm going to have to have my b/f teach me to tie the knots that he was using last night

Actually I sent you the Cabela version of Fireline and it's definitely not for weaving even though it's 8lb test. It is great for stringing and works great for bracelets.

I tried the 4lb test Fireline and was not all that impressed. With that said I love the 6lb for weaving!
