I hear you - I'm just getting fingerprints back after making the kokoshnik. :-)
Me, too! DD just passed by and told me that your creation was "cool," and wanted to know why I don't make anything cool like that.
Congrats on finishing the dolls. She is beautiful.

Please tell -- why Root Spirit? What's your story of why she came to be? ~~ Sooz

Well, she started out as an earth spirit, but I though she was rather potato-shaped. Or like a mandrake root. And, she has those lil' rooty fringes on her feet.
Not to mention that I spent so much time working on her (rather than cooking meals, etc.) that the Professor wondered, aloud, if I'd grown roots to the chair....

ROFL...I think that's a very good story!
Oh wow, she's beautiful! Sooooooo stunning. I wish I could do that, or afford to buy one!

So, how are your embroidery skills? It's really not that difficult, unless you have a terminal case of Ten-Thumbs Syndrome.
Easy for me to say: I've been sewing and making cloth dolls since I was
12, and embroidering with thread for almost that long. Adding beads is just a natural progression. :o)Does anybody else here do dolls? Do you find it easier to embroider the skin first and then sew it together, or sew and stuff the doll first and embroider later?
Arondelle
I have never done a doll, but I just learned to sew a couple of years ago. Is there a place I could purchase a cloth doll to try doing one?
The only embroidery I have done is on deer or elk hide for our ceremonial dress. It's pretty basic Native American patterns though. I try to keep them traditional for the Pow Wows, but once in a while I'll design my own with traditional patterns as a guide.
