The next I get the urge to cover an ENTIRE doll in beaded backstitch -- somebody slap me and remind me what a pain it is. In the future, backstitch for embellishment only, peyote for full coverage. =:-o

When you are backstitching, how many beads do you pick up? I find it goes much faster than Peyote. But then again, I have always been slow at Peyote.
I am organizing a Round Robin beaded doll on my forum....I can't wait to see the end results!

Only 2 or 3 beads per stitch. I suppose it would go faster in I picked up 4-5, but it seemed too loose.
I also have to use a regular sewing needle (the smallest sharp I could find) rather than the longer beading needle (except with the 15/0's) because it's easier to maneuver in tight places (like around her neck), and is less flexible and less prone to breakage. I've never broken a needle until this project. Ouch!
Oddly, the #12 betweens I sometimes use for quilting, which are lees than 1" long, are too fat to go through a 11/0.

I have no idea how you do this, but WOW!!! Beautiful work Arondelle! I can't wait to see it finished!

That's really pretty - lovely colors!
At which point I will be drooling mercilessly....
How pretty
Do you have any John James Sharps? They should work well for you.
I did my entire doll in a 12 regular...bent that puppy up into a shape that did not resemble a needle in any sense of the word. =o)
I agree that 4 or 5 beads would be too loose on a piece with all these curves.

Aah! I'd love to be able to afford John James needles: a good needle makes all the difference in the world. However, I'm stuck with the cheapo, no-name needles from Wally's World. They're just functional, which is all I ask of them right now. :o)
At any rate, I'm done with the doll's body and can go back to the beading needle for embellishment. Whew!

Too expensive! Surely you jest. What's too expensive is all that extra time, energy and frustration you have to pay for not spending a few bucks more on good beads. What's the max difference it would be? I've never seen them as much as 10 bucks for 25; I think I pay $7 at the LBS in Alaska. Even at using up a needles in each project it's well under 50 cents. I use good materials, and after investing in my materials, there's no way I'm going to refuse to invest in tools and in myself.

Well, if I *had* the money, I'd certainly spend it. Can't buy needles with food stamps, so I have to make do until things change. :-)

It certainly does! Check your mailbox in the next few days.
