Semi-OT: Valerie and Linda's crafts show

Nov 16, 2003 9 Replies

Well, it was a long but fun two days. Valerie got to experience selling at a crafts show for the first time and she got to have Bobo head-sleep her (picture coming soon).

It was mostly a window-shopping crowd, the only vendor really doing any business (besides the pretzel stand) was a woman doing custom wire wrapping while you waited. Valerie did a little under $100 and I did $10 over the table fee. Lots of lookers and ooh-ahhers, but few buyers. The weather held out for us both days, Valerie got to raid my polyclay stash to make some last minute Xmas ornaments (which turned out beautifully), I got to buy the most gorgeous bracelet from her (photo also coming soon) and we had a lot of fun.

I'll let Valerie go into detail.

That weekend was EXHAUSTING!!! I slept for 10 hours once I got home! LOL!

But it was quite a learning experience for me. I know a lot more about these things now than I did. I also learned that it isn't as scary as I thought it would be. It's a hassle to set everything up and tear it down again, but the rest is pretty fun. I kind of can't wait to try this on my own.

I also taught Linda a new variation on square stitch to turns into this:

if Linda does post the picture of her cat sleeping on my head, please knowthat I am sleeping too, and not everyone looks great sleeping. LOL! Hercritters are just adorable though, every single one of them has some weird, unique trait.

But this show was very encouraging for me. It was completely different than what I thought it would be, and not as hard as I expected. Of course I came prepared for everything, so I had everything I would need if I ran into a problem (I even brought my own toilet paper!) LOL!

The woman doing the custom wire work probably did a killing, but I would never want to do custom work while you wait. No way! She sure worked hard for the $ she made. After we were packed up and leaving, she was still working and didn't have anything put away. Even though she made a ton of $, I do NOT envy her! Yikes!

But I was also encouraged my my pain factor. I expected my body to be in total metldown the entire time I was there, and it was pretty tolerable. I'm very happy about that. I'm off my meds too (they make me feel *way* too whacked out), and am only taking vitamins. After Linda's report on how flaxseed oil is making her feel, I do believe I'll be adding that and MSM to my daily ritual. I couldn't take it before while I was on meds, because you shouldn't mix some of this stuff, but now that I'm off I can. :-)

I hope everyone had fun at BABE! I want a report ladies! I've marked everything read, but I searched for a report before that. Nothing yet!

Sure. I don't have the time at the moment to go into it, but if you have the Beaded Beads book by Beadwork (boy that's a mouthful!), it's a variation on the tubular square stitch bead in there. When I have more time, I'll post a written tute.

Nothing that hard. She was wrapping sharks teeth and stones to hang from leather cord or something with crow beads on the sides. But people got to custom pick their colors and focals, so it was on the spot custom jewelry.

Nope. I've never seen her around my neck of the woods (I was in a different county doing the show with Linda), so I really don't know. I never asked.
