Boy...two posts in one week. I might just lose my lurker status!!
I took my first lampwork class today and I am SO buzzed! My town offers a bunch of continuing education classes. And in this season's brochure, I noticed that they were offering a lampwork class. So....hubby and I signed up. He's always wanted to melt glass, so I thought he might enjoy it. There were six people in the class and after some basics, she let us loose with mandrels and three colors of boro! I admit I got frustrated, but after a little while it kinda clicked. I realized that patience is the key to a round bead! The beads are in the kiln as we speak and I get to go back tomorrow and learn how to clean them and get them off the mandrel. We also got information about her other classes.
It was funny, I had been watching Kandace's "Bubble Gum Pop" auction because I REALLY fell in love with them. PLUS, I was a "child of the
80's" and still love listening to the music too! I told my husband about them and as the auction went up in price, his eyes got pretty wide....Then, about halfway through the class, when neither of us can make a round bead to save our lives...I turn to him and say, "So, hon....how much do you thing those beads on ebay are worth now???" (heee hee heee...maybe getting him to take the class is a good way for him to appreciate the artistry and not worry about prices so much!!! hmmmmmmm...must go bid on some auctions!)So, I know bow down and do my best "Wayne's World" impression to all you accomplished lampworkers out there...."I'm not worthy...I'm not worthy...."
