The TillerPeeps have a studio!

Well, we will when Dec. 1 rolls around, which cannot come too soon for us.

It's in a converted mill here in Todmorden, the other tenants are all artists too, and we will have a roomy (well, for us on a boat that's only 7' wide anything seems roomy!) place that's bright and sunny and a whopping 12x20' which is close to the floor space of our whole boat not counting the engine room and bow well.

It will be such a big step for us, moving into real premises with warmth and light and room to store things, it's getting tiresome climbing over boxes in the boat. And it will be lovely to have a dining room again, and space for a workbench for me and Mike and anyone else who happens along.

I just thought everyone would like to share my unending joy in this news.

I hope to get to see it one day Su. It is nice to have room to swing the cat around. LOL Shirley

You're welcome any time, Shirley! I'll let you know when we have the wine-and-can'o'peas party.

Cat? Oh no, do I have to have one now that I'm an artiste?

;-D

I will, 'cause I can sure relate to tight quarters back when I was stuffed in a corner of my dining room before I took over my daughter's separate-wing bedroom. I was still doing polymer and plaster at the time, but it sure was nice to finally be able to spread out! (The cat enjoyed it, too!) :)

Congratulations!!!

Thanks, Ellen.

Now we have to wait and wait and wait till the 1st of December. It's like waiting for Christmas when you're a kid.

Once we're ready I'll post photos of the new STU*IO.

Everyone will be pleased to know the SH*D will remain in place and become the repository of all that lives on the patio.

Oh no, the cat again! Everyone seems to insist we have a cat.

There's only one problem with cats. On a boat.

No, they can swim alright, it's that bit where you're out on holiday and you stop for just one night somewhere remote and the cat jumps off the boat only to show up a week later with this innocent look saying 'How nice, you waited for me!'

That is exciting news Su! Congratulations! So will you still live in the boat, or are you moving everything to the studio? I saw your groups ad in Beadwork! My first ad in a national magazine is in that issue also. Hope to come visit your new place some day!! Mary Jarvis

Hi, Mary!

We'll remain on the boat to live, it's our home and we couldn't give it up. The studio is simply to give us a real workspace, the shed is so cold this winter that Mike can't make beads so he finally admitted he's thrilled about some genuine studio space.

I saw your ad too! It was such a nice feeling to see your ad and know I owned one of your pieces. In fact, it was great to see a few ads and know that I 'know' the artists, even if only in a virtual way.

We're thrilled about the adverts. I must modestly point out that on page 99 of Beadwork is the Challenge which this month uses Mike's beads!

How cool is that?

You're welcome to come on over any time. I recommend waiting till summer so you don't freeze as it's mighty cold in these here mountains this time of year. Ok, so they're old mountains with not a lot of high pointy bits but they still are mountains. Don't ask about the boat in the mountains thingy though. It's hard to explain. There was this big flood....

Great news Su. Did my mailed parcel ever turn up? I imagine it is lost in the postal wilderness.

I've put my name in the ballot for Arline Fisch's master class in 2006. If, in my wildest dreams I get accepted I will be heading London way afterwards.

Am heading up to Coromandle today to delivers goodies to a gellery there. Beautiful day to drive up the coast. Cheers, Jan

Hi, Jan,

Yes your parcel did arrive. I thought I'd emailed you about it but that was two computers ago so I can only plead virtual email-cide as most of my stuff didn't transfer from the dead laptop to the semi-living one and thence to the desktop. Wasn't there a problem with me posting you something and not using the right address?

Good luck with coming to London. If you do get here you will be sure to let us know and we'll come down to visit.

Well, I am definitely out of it, Su, because I don't know what a "TillerPeep" is. But I sure can appreciate your excitement at having some separate studio space. Congrats and happy beading to both you and Mike.

Great news, Su; congrats!

It made a huge difference, for me, having a place to "spread out", instead of being limited to the kitchen table on the weekends :)

You'll love it :)

Cheers, Carla

Peggy, it's a very English way of saying things. TillerPeeps = the Tillerman people. Emma Ralph nicknamed us that some time ago and I really liked it so we use it on occasion.

I've put a few more pics up on the TillerPeeps blog, two of them showning the First Mate helping his dad make a bead and one shot showing the chaos that is slowly becoming the studio.

The far right corner in the one view is my work space, with two workbenches in an L shape for beadwork and whatever. There is room past where Mike is standing to put a second torch. More pics as and when we get things done like ventilation and the like.

Ahh Su, the pics look great! Glad I checked for messages once more before bedtime. Thanks so much for shaaring, and your First Mate is indeed adorable!
