To Kandice & Starlia (and anyone else really)--Twisties & Stuff

So I've been thinking (always dangerous) and I spend an awful lot of time waiting for my kiln to heat up...usually doing useless stuff like laundry and dishes. And I like making twisties (I think this has been mentioned before LOL), but I DO NOT want to step on Starlia's toes. I'd love to put some twisties out there but just cuz they're fun, not to be mean to Starlia (and ya'll know I hate those "she's copying me" threads on WC). So Starlia, is it cool with you? (You're more than welcome to just email me instead of committing yourself on RCB.)

IF it's okay, then I'm wondering what color combinations would be most popular. I made two encased Christmas canes yesterday, a fall-colored one (greens & browns) and a classic Italian one with a white core and black filigrana lines.

Kandice, I know you do mostly pinks and purples, but those yummy lighter colors don't stand up well when thinned out. But I'm thinking Ink Blue would work well and lighten up considerably. So, I guess I'm asking for some color challenges. I like working with transparents over white or another pastel, but I'm thinking of trying some other stuff. I'm just fascinated with the cased twisties and willing to try anything that won't bleed.

Can't wait to get suggestions! I'll post pix of the canes I made later on. Time to get some auctions together for this evening.

You aren't stepping on any of my toes. I hate those WC copying threads too! Go for it girly.

I know Wendy Tobler's put them on ebay for a while, even before WC came along, so I guess everyone is copying her! Lol.

:) I think ink blue would be wonderful! You can always try dark amethyst over periwinkle, too. I also love dark green! I'd love some Christmas twisties - as long as they are darker. :) The purple red and dark sage green (transparent) look wonderful together. Under the sage you can use one of the pale greens or white. Any transparent red looks good over the purple red opaque. I've been dying to try purple and green together again, as well. :) And any opaque color would look great next to Vetrofond black - that black won't bleed as much as the Moretti. Hope this helps!

Here's another example of copying but not knowing it. LOL

Really? I haven't seen them before - I'm off to look!

Yep, contrary to some people, who love to get on the copying thing, more than one person can have the same great idea! So you're in great company!

Would you guys please send me in the right direction to view beads made with twisties? Is a cane the same as a twistie...only the cane is straight and the twistie is, uhh, twisted? I'm lampwork-terminology impaired. LOL

Those are all what I call 2-color twisties....a "paddle" of white goes in between, you layer transparent colors on each side, attach a punty (handle) heat it up, and pull/twist. Note to Kandice: whatcha think about colors like them?

twisties? <

Check out Mavis' auctions on eBay - her ID is BeadsbyMavis. She has been making beads featuring twisties for at least a couple of years now.
