Does this ever happen to anyone else?

I've been sooo in the mood to scrap lately. I have lo's going in my head all the time. So, I sit down to scrap and start digging through all my paper for just the right color and nothing works. I just can't get past the first step, if I could everything else would fall into place. Lots of times I land up just using white paper. I wonder if it's a matter of the more I know and the more I have it's harder to get anything done. Does that make sense to anybody? I just wanna scrap! I've been checking out the mags and web for inspiration, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. I have a color wheel but no idea how to use it, even after reading the directions. Wish someplace would have a class for colorwheels. Anyay, thought I'd check and see if anyone has any advice for me. It's not like I just started either. Between all my albums I've prolly got near a couple hundred pages done, and I'm happy w/ them all 'cept for maybe a couple.

OK THAT WILL WORK.. ive spent several hours.. and I no longer have the urge to continue.. Ive been told im too anal and should cut free and just go with it.. it doesnt have to be perfect.. but to me .. it does... ohhhhhhhhh well........ so ill have a hobby for the rest of my life.. is that a bad thing???????

This happens to me all the time. I never really thought of the problem as "a matter of the more I know and the more I have it's harder to get anything done," but I think you're onto something. I never used to have a problem getting started. Lately I've been using My Creative Companion by Becky Higgins to get started. I'll look at a page topper or photo matting idea and build around that.

The good news: once I get started for the day scrapping, the hesitation seems to evaporate.

This happens to me all the time. Maybe the whole idea is that we need to get back to the basics...white or black background and embellish with just a hint of color.

i've definitely done this! i think one thing that's helped me past that color issue... i've finally learned that when i buy paper, i need to buy it in sets. i find random printed paper that i like, and i immediately go and get matching cardstock. 2 printed, 2 solid cardstocks. that way, i always have SOMEthing that i know will work together when i start on a layout. i might not necessarily always use what i buy to go together, but at least there's something there to work with. make any sense? good luck... lori shay louisville

Hi Katrina,

Nope, you're not alone. I'm very much an idea person, just can't the ideas out of my head. It doesn't help that I have a completion and procrastination problem :-D

I keep a little idea notebook, cuz I can't rely on my memory anymore :-)

I find that the more planned in my head I have a page, the harder it is to put on paper. I can never seem to find the materials that I visualize for that page and once it's planned I have a hard time changing my ideas. It's much easier to sit down with a set of picture and just go with the flow. Peggy

I have found out by reading, that scrapbooking is a art form of ones self. I too have a color wheel and can not stand it as it is confusing. Anyhow I have come to the conclusion, my scrapbook is mine, I put it togther as I see fit and if I LIKE it, I am happy. The only thing that I found to be helpful from all the tips I have read, when cropping on a printed background, use a solid color mat. This does help and helps blend the colors and makes the background less busy. So like I tell others I have contact with, if you don't like my colors, oh well, I DO!!! So do it YOUR way!

I think you're right Peggy! Believe me, I'm not a planner. It's just that lately ideas have just been popping up. Maybe those pop ups are bad for me. Kinda like the pop up spam. LOL It does seem like getting the pic out of my head and onto paper is the hardest part. Go away! Mind be clear! LOL
