Twice in a week...must be a record!

Saturday was my deflowering...and I guess I just can't stay away, because I finally found the bead shop in Tacoma I've been hearing so much about. Went there tonight to see what it was like and to shop for beads for my friend's vessel necklace. Wooohoooo!! I love it. Much better than the one i walked into and promptly walked out again. They have EVERYTHING i'm gonna need. They even tempted me for a minute to take lampworking classes...but nope, not gonna cave. Dh was there and saw what i'd need as a set up and he put his foot down on that one, as I knew he would. That's perfectly fine, because they have enough other things to keep me busy. LOTS of natural stones, bone, silver, gold, crystal, art glass....i could go on and on...I LOVE it. Of course, my first visit, I'm half way to my first $100 mark, which will earn me $10 in store credit. If i spend $500, I will become a lifetime member and get 10% of EVERY purchase. Sigh, I'm in heaven....or darned near close to it. Dh was a real sweetie, too...he KNEW i wasn't feeling well tonight, and told me that this was my Valentine's gift, and that I could even go back next week when their pearls are on sale. Isn't he sweet? Anyway....just had to share.

I bought Laboradite (the ones i got remind me of Harry's paua, but a darker blue colour that i was after) and some clear quartz. Next week, I'll see what else i can find to go with them...or just rootle around some more in what i have in my pitiful little drawer (which is getting fuller and fuller every time i turn around...lol). I also got some copper wire for learning to wire wrap, and to make a bracelet and earrings to match a necklace i already have, a SS toggle clasp for my friend's necklace, some SS wire for the same necklace, and a nice little gift box to put her necklace in when it's done (it's natural brown craft paper covered, but i'm gonna cover it with some pretty fabric for her). I tell you, though...I could have bought soooo much more if given more time.

Have you noticed that I get really chatty after I've had what we call in the quilting world S.E.X. (Stash Enhancement eXercise)? It's like that IRL, too...hehe. Anyway, enough of my rambling...i'm gonna go play with my beads.

It's good to have an LBS, and I wouldn't want to be without one. But keep in mind that you can usually get better deals on line.

Still it's not the same as seeing things in person and touching them. Especially for stones and quartz.

They do have an online store. Actually...the prices looked very reasonable. As for the wire, I'm sure once I figure out what i'm doing with it, i'll want larger quantities, and i'll look for it elsewhere, but this was just fine for me this time. Sometimes, too, you have to have instant gratification...lol. For me, it's just like having a quilt shop nearby. I love to shop online, but go to the quilt shop to figure out which fabrics I want to order. Once I know what's out there and have seen and touched it first hand, then I can start saving some money.

Jalynne -- garnet would be a good accent with that, as would pearls or apatite.

Fortunately, on Saturday, I had purchased some garnet disks that are the right scale. I looked at them next to the other beads, and i think the three colours (red white and blue, even...LOL) are about all my friend is going to be able to handle...she's a simple girl, like me. Thank you all sooo much for your input so far. I will lay the beads out this weekend in my beading tray, and see how it looks, and then when the vessel gets here, it'll tell me if it's right. I can't bring out the wire until the vessel is here, it just wouldn't be fair, because it might get jealous.

Simple is good. All my suggestions should have had "or" between them. Like in case you already had something that you hadn't yet thought to put with the vessel.

What a cool idea to give 10% off after you've spent $500. A true addict wouldn't have trouble reaching that goal!

Whooohoooo! Its good to hear you having such a good time. Its not the same as shopping Ebay, is it! One little tiny minor correction, S.E.X. is an eXperience, not exersize... think Jimi Hendrix, not Richard Simmons. I cant wait to see what comes out of your imaginative brain and capable hands next. Yay Jalynne, our budding bead floozy. :-) Diana

< I have to get out of this one horse town. Our local, (vicinity) lol), bead store has a lot of items, but very expensive. They have very uniquie items that cost hundreds for just 1 thing. They use the Ebay slogans... Rare, Vintage, Unique, One of a Kind and so on. I can understand it for the most part, but come on... how old and vintage can a rock be? lol I know I will get to a REAL bead store someday... till then I can just dream. (sigh)

ah, but it's both. right now it's an exercise, because i'm LEARNING, you see. Heehee. but a good one...IRL, i like exercise...it's life affirming, as is beautiful beaded jewelry...oh heck, i'm not awake yet. Taking DH to Seattle for a Team in Training session, then off to an all day sew-in.

Jalynne -- I remember the first time I bought wire. I walked around saying "I own silver. I own gold." LOLOLOLOL -- in their wire form, it felt more precious than a finished piece of jewelry (many of which I owned in silver and gold) because it was something that I could actually do something with. More precious than anything.
