Ha - I've seen her studio - I didn't think it was a mess at all. I was awed though - so many things to play with!!!!

It's really just a little thing. I tried a bracelet pattern that was in the magazine, and mine came out too small. I made a little extender that incorporated the pattern into it, instead of having a big ol' ugly hook.

Being such a novice at wire, I was just pleased to have come up with the solution I liked instead of throwing away the bracelet or giving it to my daughter!

Hi Sooz,

About two weeks after we put Jinx down, Romeo started dragging his back leg. Because it happened so suddenly, the vet didn't think it could be a tumor, but maybe a disc problem. We won't know for sure without an MRI, and even if we could afford ($2000, I think) that, we couldn't afford another $3000 for the surgeon. As old as he is, we probably wouldn't put him through a surgery anyway.

After a week on muscle relaxers and then a week on Prednisone, he's improving some. His foot curled under, so when he did start hobbling on it, he was hobbling on his knuckles. Slowly, he's walking on the foot more and more now, although that back leg is really weak (both back legs were weak, just one worse than the other). We finished up the Pred and will just see how he does from here. I think his activity is limited to wandering around the yard now, but that's ok. He's retired. He can do what he wants. He's a fairly big dog, so if it gets to a point where he can't walk anymore, we may have to put him down. I can't carry him in and out. I'm hoping he's got a few more years with us now though. For a while there, I thought I was going to lose two dogs within a month!

Jerri, thank you for writing all that for me. I'm so sorry Romeo is feeling bad in his back, poor sweetie. Have you checked around to see if you have any holistic vets in the area? We did acupuncture and chiro on our doggie, and she did so great! (And you know the placebo effect is lost on animals.) You might want to check it out.

A side note: Our animal-chiro also does the Siberian tigers at a nearby wild animal park. You should see the pictures.....this is a very big man, and in the pics he's dwarfed by these cats. Amazing.

Jerri, a friend of mine gave her old fella shark cartilage for his joint and bone aches. It seemed to help quite a bit. If your vet hasn't offered this up to you yet maybe you could ask him about it.

Thanks Sooz,

There was a whole nother saga, because we thought it might be an early case of tick paralysis. This made more sense to me because Romeo is old and blind and the most he does is walk around the neighborhood with me. It just seemed that a disc thing would be more likely after an injury or a lot of running, jumping.......

When we got home from the vet, DD found the huge tick in his ear. We removed it and I called the vet the next morning. He thought if it were tick paralysis, we'd see improvement by that night, so now he doesn't really thing that's what it was, but I've e-mailed back and forth with a vet school that studies it, and they said that a full recovery can take 4-6 weeks, so it's still possible. I guess I'll see if he gets better in a couple more weeks. Either way, I'm going to be reluctant to let him walk any more than around the yard. The day his leg went out, we'd gone for a walk, maybe 1

1/2 mile. Nothing strenuous though.

Good point about checking holistic vets. That's a thought that I'll consider if things get worse. I'm sure there's not one out here, but maybe in Atlanta.

Thanks Margie,

That's a thought. A friend of mine, with a St. Bernard, was told by her vet to start her on glucosamine or chondroitin, I can't remember which. Pretty funny because my friend takes it too.

Lol. Yep, when I first heard of her, I almost e-mailed her to tell her that I had a dog named Jinx, but figured she'd think I was a crackpot or something!

I take it too! and had my 14 year old golden retriever on it till she passed...

Glucosamine (the brand I gave my dog was Gluco-Flex) works wonders on the joints! (be careful if you have shellfish allergies, it's made of mussels!)

(Oh, I take the Trader Joe's brand myself. Helps my cricky knees and shoulders...)

When I had my golden on it, if I was a bad mom and ran out and she had to go a few days without, I could definitely tell she had a harder time getting up.

if you want to see my dearly departed Razzberrie, see the photo on the very bottom of my website:

Here's my Romeo, napping in my closet (his safe place):

He was mistreated before he came to us, so he's really afraid of the camera, among other things. (It took me about 4 years to get him to come in the house! Then he realized he was missing something, not being a house dog all that time!)

Well if it helps to the two legged "oldies", it is sure to help the four legged ones.
