WC again on Copying

Feb 28, 2004 48 Replies

Starlia, this kind of crap is why I stopped reading WC and am no longer putting 4WC on my new auctions... it used to be rare, but now it happens all the time. I don't think the folks on WC are bad people, and in fact I'm very fond of most of them and miss that sense of community I used to find there... I think the *dynamic* has gone bad. Sorta like spending holidays with my family-of-origin ;). If you walk away for a while, it'll blow over. I know you'll never trust WC quite the same ever again, and I'm sorry this is happening. :(

Thanks Kalera...I'm over the drama there. I just am putting my energy to better uses. I too have forged friendships, but some of the stuff going on there is starting to wear me out.

Harry has grounded me to my torch for two weeks and I'm not to read WC. LOL I will probably follow Sir Harry's grounding. :-)

I'm finding it interesting that my memories of the teddy bear world are such that you could take the copying threads over at WC, exchange the word "bear" for the word "bead", and you'd have a good idea what it was like.

I was asked by the Washington Post if I was worried that everyone would copy me (when my instruction book came out). I replied that it took a darn good day for ME to make what people perceived as a "Debbie Kesling Bear". If someone out there could do it on a regular basis, then BRAVO!

There's a "monkey challenge" going on at WC right now. The idea comes from the whole monkey see, monkey do thing re: copying... We make a monkey, but no one shows any pics or gives any info until March 13. Then we post pics. It will be interesting to see how many look alike even though we are working in complete isolation.

Tink

PS --- My monkey is done! He is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute!

Ohhhh - yep, I broke my own rule about not going back to WC, and went ahead and read the rest of the thread. I love what Ann Schermo posted - she's fabulous!

Out of morbid curiosity I went and found and read the "other thread"... ouch! Well, all I really have to say after all that is, I *hope hope hope* someone copies me someday! I hope *lots* of people copy me someday! Furthermore, I HOPE TO GAWD people TALK about people copying little ole *me*! :D

That would so make my day.

Schermo rocks. (Even I was moved to post on that thread.) ~~ Sooz

I read. Thanks Sooz. I thought I was the person that was up for conversation, and now I know it is.

All of this brings back memories of a long time ago, when my cousin copied my brother in everything he did.. It used to get up the wick of a few people and one day I asked my brother about it.. why didn't it upset him when my cousin copied almost everything he did? He said to me: 'You can look at it that way if you liked.. But to him it was a huge compliment.' That he was worth copying was real complimentary.. and he LOL..

That thread seems to be so petty IMHO.. Everyones skill and talents are so different that to copy anyone to the exact detail just isn't going to happen! And, why not look at it as a compliment, anyway? Sheesh!!!

Oh, my gosh, there were SO many answers, and it ended up being pretty supportive of Starlia, I felt. There were a lot of voices of reason to counteract the small, attacking voices. Several oldtimers who rarely post weighed in with very sensible, articulate opinions.

I felt so supported. I really was saying in the back of my head to a chosen few..."bite me" but I didn't post that. Instead, I tried to post reasonable answers.

The only thing that really bothered me this time is that so many people asked if it was them who copied. Then you got several more who was afraid to post or put anything on eBay. That's so counterproductive to such a great group of folks.

BTW - Kalera I'll copy you any day...when I get better. Of course by then you'll still be knocking my socks off.

OOOOH, no, please don't...LOL I couldn't bear it getting hurt while we're moving around where the Navy tells us to. I can wait until he retires, honest...LOL.

I thought so too. Very much so. ~~ Sooz
